Nice, thanks kazjim... I reckon that sensor and this kit (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5300&CATID=25&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=347)
would go pretty well.

Here's the one that Graham Russell uses.. easy to transfer from car to car, the sniffer is on a bit of pipe you clamp up the tailpipe.
Gives realtime readings as you vary load.

James, if yours works this well, I'd build one. Be nice if it read in % though.

Nissa 3 wire sensor ($70 from Wrecker - N12 Pulsar) and a Jaycar LED Display kit....

Should have it set up on a "sniffer" setup soon, and later a "full-time" hookup witha bung in the exhaust manifold just after the turbo ....

Total cost is under $100 .....

oops, sorry Jim... I didn't confuse you with awdmoke, honest....

Yeah I built one as well but with the more expensive kit that data loggs to external serial output (laptop) you can be mobile and logg differing situations. I have changed my oxygen sensor twice now.

Best to have two at all times.
The first one you use most of the time and the second to use as a comparison once and for a short period of time. This lets you know if the main one is going south to the scrap bin. Then buy another (same type) retest to calibrate between the two and then shelve the newer one as your datum 2nd unit.

If you want to play around guessing at which needle is best for your combo while sitting at your desk the Haystack program by Scott Beavis has long since evolved into WinSU. You can download it for free and the first 10 engine combinations come for free. After that you have to pay him for that feature but the rest of the features are still free. I have the full version on my PC at home and also on my laptop at work so I can use it in my lunch break.

I also bought a Gunson exhaust gas analyzer from Ebay UK and got it to my doorstep for $60. In the car I used a meter I picked up from Ebay USA for $22 to the door and a 3 wire sensor from the wreckers that I just picked up.

I personally find WinSU pretty useless.. the needles it's recommended for my engine setup have turned out rubbish.

And if you have twins, there's no data at all.:(

I bought an EGO sensor just like that one ($20 :P) and the jaycar kit the same as that one, but when I hook it up all the lights go on :( , I killed 3 of the LED's too by testing them on a car battery with no resistor - dickhead... so I'll get some more LED's and show the guys at jaycar and see if they can tell what I did wrong

do you have yours working Jim?

I finally got my sensor and jaycar kit working and hooked up to the brick, the sensor up the exhaust pipe held in with some electrical tape - just tells me what I already knew - too rich at idle and just right under part throttle and too lean at high revs!

the lights look cool though...

I took a video, but it's too big to post and not that exciting

Yep thanks, that's the one... I had a play with WinSU then went and tested the needles it recommended agains the charts on that link (comparing them to my current needles). I found some needles that might be worth trying if I get around to it

yeah, I did..... that was the catalyst for getting my arse into gear with the sensor... the mintylamb one is handy, but finding a better needle is pot luck unless you know the type... I'm gonna make a program where I can choose 1 needle, and choose richer or leaner at any station and filter the needles to a few that'd suit...

I compared my M needles that were in it with the AH2's that I had in a pair of HS4's - the AH2's are significantly richer after the mid running stations so I put them in, also swapped around dashpots and pistons and honed them all nicely to get them the same on the drop test and mixed oil grades to get them lifting up the same, THEN I used my sensor thingy, and it was the same rich then lean...

I'll take it to my mates this arvo and hook it up to his analyser to compare the outputs
