Sport Sedans have gained historic status from 2006 thanks to the work of EX-Sports Sedan Mini racer Fred Sayers. Fred is a member of the Qld Historic Racing Car Club and has worked on this for a long time, he has tried to get in contact with all of the old racers to get this series back up and running.

There was talk last year of extending the NSW series to Winton and other tracks( talk of some of the Jap cars coming over to join the fun) who would run under non Cams rules about licensing and car log book fees, safety is stil opmost under these non Cams rules but its a more sensible aproach without having to have your car meet FIA rules that are basically designed for F1 and stuff the little club racer :D

Any sensible approach to motor racing like this would surely mean that many of the old Mini racers would be back on the tracks where they belong. Winton was designed for Minis wasn't it?? (Well, the short track anyway!!!)

I have had a long involvement with motor sport and i guess I was lucky that you didn't have to be a millionaire to enjoy participating in grass roots racing.

However, here in regional NSW speedway is the way to go. Most larger towns have a speedway circuit and they currently run a juniors competition 14 years to 17 years in a speedway safety prepared <1600cc car (laser or whatever) and the speedway drivers have a ball - just as furious as good racing anywhere.

Wouldn't even dream about a speedway mini now but am going to get 13 yo into later this year. Costs about $2000, all up, for driver plus car and probably the most cost effective way to learn to drive. Go Karts are better but just too pricey .
