There is a product called "Derma Shield" obtainable from certain Chemists that is a barrier cream refered to above. Apply it prior to doing any work, I find it excellent for my hands in the parts washer and other dirty/greasy work. Good for about 4 hours. BTW, use kero with some Kenco degreaser in my PW, works a treat.

we should really all be wearing gloves and masks when handling petrol products. No one really knows what long term effects regular exposure to the substances and fumes could have in terms of brain damage, cancer etc. BTW some European studies found a strong link between exposure to the modern unleaded petrol and skin cancer.

G'Day Mike,
I now agree totally after my wife complained of a headache within a couple of minutes of my opening the garage door last night. I think the biggest damage is to the liver, imagine cirrhosis without taking a drink, what a waste! To this end today I designed a fume hood (sort of like in our labs at work) using parts from a discarded dryer which I will hang up on the wall and vent to outside. It will have a sliding vertical Perspex window at the front which I can adjust for the task at hand. The nice part is the fan is indirectly driven so there are no motor sparks to ignite any volatiles so it can double up as a small parts spray booth and head grinding (metal chip and dust) container.
When done I could post instructions if anyone else is interested.
Dino.

A mask is a very good idea!! I know that after washing parts in kero, I get some awesome black boogies WITHOUT a mask!!! :P
