Brown Clubman , I'm still searching for those bloody magazine articles ..... I have a mental image of the folder they're in but do you think I can find it , found everything else but not it .....

Couple of hour's later ==> ==> ==> WOOHOO !!!!
Finally found them , one's from when the SS was released and say's 500 ,
Image

The other is from when the 998LS was released and say's 300 SS mini's were to be built and soon sold out , maybe they decided to do 500 after the initial 300 sold ????
Image

You might need to save the larger one to your computer and zoom in on it to read it clearly , old magazine print isn't too good on my scanner .....

Got to love the exciting , 70's style in Leyland's poster's , but not as good as the psychadelic moke one .....

Hey is that steering wheel an 'SS' option or a general mini option cause I bought one yesterday just because it looked cool. If any one's interested the guy I got it from has an original 'SS' for sale in need of restoration. PM me.

Ok,
Here are a few plates i have that vary a bit to that.
10/72 Clubman - MINI YG2S7 ****
9/74 Clubman S - MINI 021 D2S2 M10 / *****
12/75 Clubman - MINI 022 D2S1 M09 / *****
06/76 Clubman S - MINI 022 D2S1 M09 / ***** This is my good car.
11/76 Clubman S - LEYLAND MINI S 022D2S1 M09 / *****
5/78 Clubman - LEYLAND MINI XNPAB 18Y / ****** .

As you can see not all Clubman S were D2S2.

I picked up one of those steering wheels yesterday as well as a grill with factory spot light cut outs. The grill must have been of an SS as the holes for the S badges indicate this.
Also which other models had this type of steering wheel?

I was just guessing with the seventh digit! It is for the quality level of trim, so in theory a car with a "1" is not as nice as a "2". I need to see something from Leyland to say what it really means.

I am interested in the 9/74 Clubman S with the 021 prefix. My thinking is the 021 should be the Mini 1100 which is the poverty model Clubman with the magic wand gearchange but now I am not sure. It has the D2S2 so it should have the better trim.... :? Time for more research!

My other theory is that the 022 is the "S" and the 021 is the basic "Mini"

All the special editions had that steering wheel. I think it is originally an Austin Allegro GT wheel or something like that. I remember that Mini Kingdom had heaps of them brand new in the mid 80's. I bought a new one for my LS as the original one was getting ratty.
