Hi,
Back from the dyno, the timing was played around with. They found 5degrees to get the best results. Vehicle is now very drivible. The car is now leaking coolant after the vehicle is turned off. Out the overflow hose onto the ground. Might have to go and get a cooling system flush out as the car has been sitting unreg for a few years. Anyway the dyno test was 32kilowatt in third gear.
Any cooling tips(the car has an oil cooler).
Thanks

That power's still sounding a little on the low side to my thinking , any ideas from the dyno guy's ? As for the cooling , I've always found that if everything is working alright (check the obvious of course , thermostat opening , new parts etc) then a core from a heater plumbed into the pipes that were to go to your heater works well when mounted behind the grille .

Yea, I am going to try this with a new heater core I forgot I had (ex VN Commodore).

In regards to coolant pushing out of the overflow hose when you turn off your car......to me this is NORMAL and not really an issue. If you fit an overflow bottle ($5), and a recovery cap to your rad ($10) you will never have that prob again.

Hi,
I don't know if the pistons were 9:75 or 8:8 as when the motor was rebuilt. This may effect the power output. There wasn't 98octane fuel on the market at the time and a lot of rebuilders went for low compression pistons to stop pinging. The part number is on the original posting probably ACL product.
The vehicle has a heater inside.
thanks

If you get a couple of T-pieces (Brass or copper plumbing T's perhaps) and put them into the heater hoses where they come from the head and from the radiator/bottom hose . Then put extra hose from the T-pieces to the new heater core so you will still have a continuous flow to the extra core without needing the mini's heater tap to be turned on . However you mount it , just make sure the coolant comes from one side of the engine to the other , not just a closed loop on one heater hose .

Glad you found some more power as my 850 produces more than 28 at the wheel.

As for the overflow if the car hasn't been driven for a few years I'm 95 % certain you'll blow a head gasket soon sorry.

hope its not but pretty sure minis hate not being driven.

rip the head off and check out whats going on it there, somehting is not right.
as for the water blowing i have 1 customer that that has the same issue and i have tried extra tank, etc etc and it still does it, the head gasket has been checked and collant has been pressure checked nothing wrong. Check the radiator cap to make sure its the correct one, but i only see this guy every 6 months and have 2hrs to fix any faults, if it was major the car would have told me already.

Hi,
I just got the mini back from the radiator shop(reputal company). Ended up buying new radiator had system pressure tested. On the invoice it had,
COMBUSTION LEAK TEST(Positive)
QUOTE- When a positive test is indicated, exhaust gas is present in the cooling system. The test device used is a proven west german brand sensitive to detect small amounts of exhaust gas. Unlike more readily available 'suction' test kits, theis device is pressure fed by the engines own gasses, and indicates a result up to three minutes after the engine is switched off. Some engines with exhaust gasses present may continue to operate with no apparent side effects, but with a positive result we recommend you contact your mechanic/technician for further advice. End quote
The oil on the dipstick is not a milky cover.
Is this a head gasket?
Would this explain lack of power?
Thanks

It's probably a head gasket. Yes, it could affect power a bit. I'd do a compression test first, or just pull the head and fit a new Payen BK450 gasket. They are good, and pretty cheap.
Make sure you get both head and block faces spotlessly clean.

i knew it was a head gasket by what you described, lack of power, and also issues with your cooling..
don't bother checking it, just take the head off and replace it, that way you'll know for sure.

Most Mini shops sell them now. aka `Turbo' gasket.
They are black. NOT the so-called copper ones.
