I know this thread is an old one but I would also like to know when the wind up windows started because I just picked up a Cooper and this thread just confirmed it is a 997 Aussie Cooper. However, it has the wind up windows and I want to find out if it should have sliding windows.
Regards,
Damien

Your 997 never came with wind up windows period.

The wind ups started with Cooper S and Deluxe production in australia in 1965.

Simple enough to convert back if you want to.

There is already a Cooper register run/organised/kept by :?: , can't think of his user name at the moment.

Anyway if my memory serves me correctly he has details of about 50 Coopers, only 5 of which are 998's, the rest 997's.

My 998 is the latest numbered car he knows of, or at least was the last time I conversed with him and it has the 9Y/Sa/H motor.

On the way to work I realised a bit of info that had been left out.

Not only did the later 998's have a 9Y/Sa/H motor, they also could have a 9Y/Sa/L motor.

Obviously these are high and low compression respectively.

Spoke to Graham today...they are having a little trouble with communications etc up there and are involved in the clean-up. He appreciated the fact that Ausmini folk were concerned about him.
