What an Olympic GT Radial?? That's what was originally fitted to my 77 Clubby. See pics below. Let me know if you're keen to "off-load" it. I may be interested if it's the same as mine.

This is the spare in my boot - it's still brand new!!

If anyone has any of these or knows where I can get some PLEASE let me know.

Cheers,
BC.

IM sure they must have been old stock.
its been a good 8 years since they were last really seen here (i asked a tire dealer mate of mine)
Oh well they were crap then and havent changed.
dunlop SP99 stands for see puddle start skidding 99m before and after.

yokahamas are the better type of tyre now and the SF372 for 10's but still a bit too hard for most types of motorsport as they just light up, oh thats not true either they only light up on my car hahaha.

Crossplies were good!! predictable breakaway and reliable drifting.

Hah this is good stuff, does anyone remember the NSW Highway Patrol refusing to drive on Goodyears (unfortunately, AFAIR when our Jack Brabham was doing ads for them).

It went on for a couple of weeks so the revenue loss would have been high (no automatic collection devices in those days) and followed a number of controversial crashes during pursuits.

Modern Motor Magazine stated in the january 1966 issue that Cooper S's came standard with Dunlop SP41's in Australia - from Pedr Davis' Mini Minor Downunder

my '70 S has an original in the boot (well, had, it's in the garage now cos I want a spare I can actually use!)

The first 2 'S' cars I had, a 66 and a 68 both had SP41 tyres. They were a POS!!!! ( The tyres that is) They wern't even round and they wore in the strangest of ways - scalloped edges, wore on one side only etc. Lasted about 20K miles. Changed to Michelin ZX tyres and got over 80K miles out of 2 rear tyres and about 60K miles from the fronts and no strange wear patterns.

Regards
RonR

Michelins and Pirellis were some of the very few tyres worth using in those days. We put xas's on a holden and did the KLG rally on Saturday night and wore them down to the cords on the rally. We took them back on monday morning and complained about the tyre life and the bloke reckoned they were not meant to be driven sideways only forwards. We didn't do any good with the refund application, he obviously didn't have a sense of humour. The only good pommy tyre in those days were Avon crossplies and they were superb, but you had to have deep pockets.

XASs were an asymmetrical treaded steel belted radial road tyre....great in the dry....but could still aquaplane in the wet.... Bruce McPhee won Bathurst on a set that was "down to the canvas" at the end.

What were you thinking Chris :!: maybe XZXs would have been a tad chunkieir, grippier and more appropriate for a rally

As for Pirelli Cinturatos...not a bad boot just a tad soft being a textile radial :D
