If you can find a nice metal overflow tank, it sits just perfectly underneath the passenger wheel arch, and Morris/Leyland have been nice enough to allow a hole big enough to run the hose through the inner guard to the radiator. 8)

Get a radiator cap that allows flow back into the rad as it cools (I paid a couple of bucks for mine from the local rad shop).

Attach a decent bit of plastic hose to the overflow vent using a hose clamp.

Fill and old 500 ml oil bottle about 3/4 full with coolant/water. Stick the spare end of the overflow hose in the bottle making sure that the end is at the bottom of the bottle.

Find somewhere to stick the bottle above the rad outlet (I sit mine on the crossmember in front of the wiper motor).

As the motor heats it will eject water into the bottle - as it cools, water will be syphoned back into rad.

Check out most modern cars (my 2000 Civic for instance). They use this exact system but with a fancy bottle.....

Cheers, Ian

But is there really a need for it? If there is, why didn't they put a factory one on? :?

(Thanx anyway for the pointers...) :)

It's for those people who don't check the radiator every week/long drive.

If you don't mind topping up your radiator every once-in-a-while then you don't need it. It's a cheap & easy mod to do though.
