I have to agree with Minimad on this.. Falkens are a sac of sh*t! I got rid of mine as quick as I could.. a008s are awsome! Haven't had any troubles with them in the wet..

Hmmm... nobody has mentioned the Bridgestone SF226s, they are a good honest (and cheap!) tyre if you just want a tyre for cruising around on. Not bad in the wet. And they don't wear too bad if not thrashed.

ha!... i was just about to mention them.. :) i guess i have to get up earlier...

(i am already at work tho :) )

I like them alot.. going from the 145 mabor and sime combo i had on the 3.5inch steelies to the bridgestone 165s on the widened wheels,

i'm really happy with both the grip and wear.... i swear they haven't worn a bit, but i've only had an unintentional lack of traction in once... and it was just a little understeer....

and that would've been due to tyre heat at the end of a hills fwash...

great tyre for ~$90 a wheel

I used Falkens for a while and I found them a great tyre. I decided to change to A008s and they are much better in all weathers. Haven't used A032s yet - will be the next tyres I use.

They are both the same tire, slightly different tread is probably due to the larger size of the tire in the graphic.

Thanks for all the replies!!!

So can I assume that:

1) the A032Rs are noisier than A008s,

2) Pick up more Stones,

3) Handle Better in dry or Wet,

4) and obviously much dearer per KM.

But damn they are sexy!!
Those Formula Rs are sexy too though, have to track some down up here.
I have a feeling they are the tyres Ken Nelson told me about, available from QLD raceway.

Has anyone actually used these? Or just heard about them?

Oh, and the Falkens are fine for cruisin down to the shops and picking up the groceries in your 850...

But with the new 1310 engine, I find they spin, lose grip and just can't stay on the damn road. I'll swap the new set of them I have on to the project van.

Cheers
matt

How many km's would you get out of the 008's? As I do about 500km per week and I am in the market for some new tyres too. Currently got bridgestones on it.

I drove a car at the Canberra show and shine that had them on, I was impressed with the road feel on the twisty bits.
Might try them next time...:)

OK Matt68

The ultimate with the historic race guys seem to be the Hoosiers...Serious $$$$$$

$1000 a set.

You would get about 2 good race days out of a set....works out about $10 a lap in tyres around Queensland Raceway!!!

Next option seems to be the Yokies A032R Still $$$$$$ but less wear than the Hoosiers.

A very very close 3rd would be the Dunlop D93J (Formula R).
Much more popular than the Yokies as they are only $125 each fitted. (What I am using!) Wear rate seems to be similar to the Yokies. Only problem we have with these is that they have no real 'shoulder' on the tread and they tend to scuff the outside edge off when pushed hard and are unidrectional (hard to rotate around for even wear)

The other you could think about is the Dunlop R7 Sports. It is made from the same compound as the Formula R, but has a decent shoulder on the tread like the Yokie A 008 and the tread pattern in not directional. Same $$ as the Formula Rs. It won't be as good in the wet as a Formula R though (Not for Targa Tassie I'd say  )

I am not a big fan of Dunlop the brand (Too many problems with their normal road tyres  ) BUT.... bang for buck you really can't go past them

I will most likely be giving the R7s a go for my next set of tyres  (Unless someone warns me otherwise :D )

Talk to Dunlop Motorsports at QR on 07 54619100. Their not far form you

For what you want I think you would be spending too much money on the Yokies...Go the Dunlop Fomula Rs...save your money

Minimad

Ps. Don't forget that the dunlop tyres only have about 30 heat cycles in them before they become as hard as they will ever be.

Hoosiers are a crossply tyre and therefore have a stiffer wall construction. To get the best out of them you need to set the car up to have less negative camber and actual camber change than with the 032R or Formula R.
They also feel different and are fun to drive on, being very progressive and more controlable when they let go.
2 seconds a lap?? Maybe on the Nurburgring, but I'd say less than half that around our smaller circuits.
The last set I purchased had 'NOT FOR ROAD USE' or something like that moulded into them, so I couldn't recommend them on a road car.
I also believe Avon have a 165/70/10 competitor for the 032R, but I haven't heard any reports yet.

Thanks Minimad,

I'll give the guys at dunlop a call. Sounds like the Dunlop R7s might be the best.

Cheers

Curly,

Have you seen the R7 Sports yet?

They have a more conventional tread pattern and are produced in a "GPS" Super Soft compound and are not unidirectional.

The formula R are made in a "SPS" Soft (sprint) compound which is supposed to be harder than the GPS......

Could be a lot of fun at the same price???

Anyone got these tyres???

Minimad
