3rd Paint Job: $8000
Seats/frames: $1500
Wheels/tyres: $1500
Enginge/gearbox: $6000
Stereo: $5000
Powdercoating: $2000
Suspension/brakes: $2000
Chrome work: $2000
Interior: $2000

Thats $36000 and that basically covers this rebuild now. I spent a bit of money on the car on the first rebuild but that was back in 97...

And...... No my gorgeous girlfriend isnt feralsprint........

I see room for alot of savings there. Theres 16k in just paint!

Doing the job once, doing it properly and doing it yourself will save alot of time and money. And you'll know that its been done right most importantly, why i never pay anyone to do any work on my car.

I'm interested why did'nt you go a Suzuki Gti motor or something jap? Probably would have cost a less for a stock jap motor while it would be more efficient and quicker than a morris worked motor.

mate you have built a street machine not a normal resto, $14000 of your cost has been paint and if we count your legal costs its $18000 and you lost the case ??? now its your money and car and you have every right to spend what you want but most people would spend a lot less than that and end up with a car they are happy with and if you are prepared to do a lot of work your self a $10000 total budget will give you a fully ground up rebuilt car.

An option that has just crossed my mind is to import a 92-00 rover cooper from japan.

They are going for between 4 and 8g's for a top example it seems.
Does anyone here know what the rover coopers are like in comparison to the morrys?

You can't import a 90's car into Australia and expect to be able to register it. Do a search on "Rover" and you will find heaps of information on the topic, and you'll probably answer your question regarding the differences.
Cheers,

The 92-00 rover coopers are listed on the DOTARS website as being able to be imported into australia, so it seems that it can be done.

I'll try and do a search, there are endless amounts of bmw mini sites to filter through tho :(

Well..... ive done every thing on my car myself except the paint/panel (tho the first job my dad did) the powder coating and re-chroming...

The car never meant to turn out like this but it just got outta hand. The car was oringally built as a tidy streetcar but then got pulled apart again after a year and a half on the road and was then built into a show car. The imperfections annoyed me, so thats why its been built to this standard. My engine choice came down to the simple notion of its a britsh car... so why cross breed it with a jap. If i want to go hell quick ill buy a rotary.

For sure if did it all over again knowing wat i know now, things coulda been cheaper instead of doing things twice.... but my entire point to my original reply was that buying a car done up means u dont have to risk having a resto blow out of proportion....

Do a search in Ausmini

As for DOTARS approval, you may find to bring two in, one to keep, and another one for crash testing. 8)

Yeah i just found some info from an importers website that says the minis made in 89 or after cannot be brought in :(
Maybe i can put a 68 mini compliance plate in a rover shell ;)

Is yours a Rover?

Yes and No, it appears that in the UK Minis were sold as Austins until 1989, after which they were then sold as Rovers. 8) I bought mine from Brickworx in Adelaide.
