OK, you win. My worst was hitting two trees. I bent the diff axle on a (previously) unmolested VR Commodore. Walked away with only a bruised knee, but the insurance company took a while to make contact as they were of the opinion that my dad died in the accident.

How long ago was it? I'm surprised neither of you were killed

holy fark that's the worst mini write off i've ever seen. Did you get out easily or was it a pry you out job?

Worst crash for me was going 80k's down old footscray road in my moke beside a truck. I was sitting underneath his front cabin paralell to his driver side wheel. He looks in mirror, I'm not visibile and decides to change lane.

I just remember looking sideways at this wheel that's top height was about the same as where my head was and thinking 'fiddle sticks' a few moments before it careered into my moke.

I drive a 4wd ( a small one)... and i don't think it's a matter of big 4wd owners thinking they own the road...i just don't think they can see it..

OMG!!!!! that's horrific, that's one of my worst fears when driving my Mini. Glad your ok, how's your friend?

I was involved in an accident the night after my 21st last year, was waiting at a set of lights (turning right) when my Mazda was hit from behind by a 1200 dato ute doing 60km/h, did $7,000 worth of damage to my car and wrote the Dato ute off.

i actually just pushed the door open and got out, i was pretty lucky with the pole, missed me by about 3 inch. the only thing worth keeping off it were the wheels and engine.

It did catch on fire under the drivers seat, i think it was the battery earthing out.

There were no witnesses and me being a young NSW driver in QLD, i was obviously at fault. I got booked for operating a motor vehicle causing grevious bodily harm.

It was just over 1 year ago now.

Got forced off the road at speed in 1965, had head-on with (small, luckily) tree, I was sitting in the front passenger's seat. No seatbelts back then.
Broke left leg into 100 pcs, broke arm too- leg was in traction for 5 months.
Lucky I'm here... thank God.
Driver broke his left arm 2 places... he's lucky too.
Take car, people. You just dunno what's around the next corner.

faaarrkk - that's an amazing survival Kev... any estimate on what 'at speed' was?

so the front floor basically pushed your passenger seat backwards - making room for you to not get squashed... wow

I like to say that minis fare really well in crashes - they do... but I bet there are a lot where people get killed too - I saw a picture in the melbourne paper maybe 15 years ago where a mini had oversteered around a corner and hit a parked car sideways, I think the 2 passengers died and the driver was in a really bad state

take care indeed

Simon, the speedo was stuck on 60MPH I was told.
See the roof where tree went in, it creamed the radiator, just missed the crank.
As I said, the tree was just the right size. If a power pole, we would both be DEAD.

BTW, we were 300 yards from home...

Prob one of the worst acco's i have seen was just out side of Nowra, a like 10 in the morning a car was on the side of the road mangled in a timber
sleeper type fence... One of the sleepers actually went straight through the front of the grille through the motor and what ever else was in the way
then went through the firewall then out the passenger window. Must have just happened before we got there, was weird though there wasnt
anyone to be seen anywhere, the car was still steeming as all the water leaked from the radiator....

i've seen some pretty bad ones too, the worst was when i was down at a park one night talking to a few mates when two drunk idiots came down in a gemini van, they proceeded to do donuts on the grass etc.

Running thorough the middle of this park was a small flood run off creak with about a 3 meter drop on its banks, anyway the drunken fool in the passenger seat thought it would be cool to hang out the window while they where doing donuts, the car rolled down the creek bank with old mate hanging out the window.

We ran over to check out if they were ok, that is when i seen the most mangled head ever, the guys head was split in two and his brains were hanging like spagetti from his head all over the dash, the guy driving got out like nothing happened and was taken to hospital by the ambo's, he was charged with manslaughter and ended up hanging himself.
