Why didn't that mini sprint do better in Targa at the hands of the Drapers? It always looked to have the goods but either broke down or just didn't do the times.

Maybe this should be the fastest, reliable, mini? Then GTi you've got a good shot at the title.

What about those V8 conversion minis?

Most if not all of these will be rear wheel drive.. I don't know of any V8 mini's with front wheel drive.. Might be interesting..

Matt Read is building one - rover alloy V8 on an austin 1800 gearbox, check out his website

1/4 mile and mini do not belong in the same sentence, 1/4 mile is an American thing because basically they made cars that didn't stop and did not go around corners but they do go in a straight line, but anything does if you shove a big enough motor in it.

Now if your things drag racing forget mini and go and get a rear drive big engine and even put an auto in it a go but if you want to go fast around corners and get from A to B quickly with a smile get a mini :D

Don't bother with drag racing, front drive will always lose out to rear wheel drive. Stick with what minis do best
At a recent hillclimb a couple of supercharged V8 hot rods did some demonstration runs. They laid rubber and scorched off the line; but when the times were examined, each of the 4 minis competing on the day beat them soundly.

sure theres probably not much point trying to go pro drag racing with a mini, but the amateur stuff is fun... last outing our li'l old minis did some better times than quite a few falcodores which surprised a few people. I went to the Genie exhaust place over here a couple of weeks back and the drags got mentioned (Genie sponsor the wednesday meets) and the girl at the desk asked one of the guys if he remembered seeing minis there and his comment was that 'they were doing some pretty good times' so i think we got at least a bit of credibility out there 8)

Granted Carl and please dont take my post the wrong way. However there is method to someones madness. That is nothing is impossible. Granted also that some idiot might stumble onto a way to do it but I personally believe too that 12's for a N/A mini are a long shot and even when it happens, how tractable will it be on the road anyways - certainly would be a bitch in traffic

my appendix j austin cooper s would definately run a mid 13 or even lower. do the math- engine develops 153hp@ 7500 ,118ft/lbs of torque@ 5800 and weighs 597kg's. the car is fitted with a tran-x lsd, special one off gear ratios and good rubber. all this equals one damn fast n/a mini and it still runs the a series which is under 1300cc! That sprint by the way looks like it weighs about 800kg!

It may not be easy to get quick times out of a FWD car, but it certainly is rewarding flogging some high powered V8/Posche/Insert car of choice here from the lights and knowing that you have them in the corners as well ;)

I'm putting a 4EFTE in my car and straight line speed is certainly one of the reasons, high horsepower with reliability is up there as well. Now i also know that i could also have a MUCH faster RWD car for LESS money.

BUT it just wouldn't be a mini.

I think you've just hit the nail on the head. theres nothing like beating a commodore or falcon down the drags, then going to a track day knowing you could kick his bum again. very satisfying.

as mentioned i could go faster for much less but it wouldn't be a mini.
