Slightly off topic but I remember when the Mini first came out the Australain version of Candid Camera put a 44gal (200L) drum in the boot and hooked it up to the filler nozzel.

We still had driveway service in those days so they got an actress to be the dumb blond and got the car filled - should have seen some of the reactions

OT: You can go to Kmart and get a 25L jerry can for fuel for $20. It's good quality, comes with a flexible hose thingy etc.

The 10L version for $15 looks best as it's smaller and may fit in the boot nice and snug.

I mean it aint an ideal solution but I have no fuel issues currently as mine aint a daily driver, so it would be a safety measure for long trips only. Sure beats $200!

Be careful about carrying fuel in plastic jerry cans in the boot, long term.
You risk the can vibrating around- and it could wear a hole if/when it rubs on something. Then you got 20L of fuel sloshing in there with the battery...
I've lost a few oil bottles (full of oil) this way. Helps rustproof the boot!

Jerry can is OK for a trip though- just don't leave it in there permanently!
