Hey, ask Anton (JAM_IT)- he just pulled the 1.5" HIF38 off his 998 because it was so gutless, and went back to twin HS2s...

"sigh" twins are better for economy than a single 1.5" too, it's not only about performance. :!:

Basically, with the single carb manifold, the inner two cylinders will run slightly leaner than the outer two. (I think i got this the right way around)

With the twins all four cylinders can effectively haver the same mixture, and still give better town driving fuel consumption as the intake charge speed is maintained at lower revs.

Fuel economy is mostly about How you drive it, not what the carb is.

But since you want to sell the twins, ask for between $200 and $500 depending on the overall condition, how shiny they are, how much you clean them up, how recently they were rebuilt and who rebuilt them and do you have receipts. This includes the cooper s manifold.

Good luck!
Matt

I would be keeping them.

The expense of changing them over would outway the $250-$350 that you would get for the twins, and the BLING they add to your engine bay would add more to your car's value than ebay would get for your carbs :)

by the sound of it you should keep them or risk being "voted off the island"

Keep the twins for all of the reasons above , they can be a little more fiddly but are worth it in many ways . Besides , did the mechanic offer to buy them when you took them off ?????

seems that way,

no he didnt want to buy them off me plus i still got them on he sold them to me in the first place.

well everyone seems keen on me keeping them and im thinking that to coz think i'll be disapointed with the performance decrease with a single 1.5, and my twins are set up sweet now.

just to keep the carbie thread going whats advantages/ disadvantages of a webber

Im my experience with them ,

Advantages
Induction sound that makes you think you've got more power
Good on race motors with really good heads
Bling Bling
Less fiddly adjustment compared to SU's

Disadvantages
Pour's bucket loads of fuel into a motor
Over-rated (personally)
Not suited to standardish mini motors for the street .

the sound is the best bit!! more than compensates for any (slight) disadvantages it might have 8)

So everyone says... but my weber is a lot more economical than my (admittedly poorly tuned) twin SU's were and still gets 8 - 9 L/100km easily which i wouldn't call 'bucket loads' for a worked 1330.

There are plenty of people who'll argue that a single 1 3/4" SU will match or beat a weber for performance, so if you don't care for the sound, the big SU (or two of them) will do just fine... My twin SU's will be going back on soon for originality, but guaranteed I'll miss the weber...

Webers and Dellortos CAN be tuned for road use so they give good power but don't throw heaps of raw fuel into the motor.
Plugs on mine burn just fine...all 4. 8)

As for throttle response (once on the cam), single or even twin SU's just don't cut it by comparison.
Yes, I've got Minis with both sorts.

And the noise... "tell em about the noise, son!" Music to us beholders... :P

obviously proper tuning is the key... before getting dyno'd, I usually got around 210 - 230 miles per fillup (~40L), post tune up it went to 280 - 310 miles (best was 330) depending on conditions - BIG difference.
