Got some new butterflies coming up, hopefully get her by the weekend. I dare say thats where the issues is, maybe i got carried away with the grinding.........?

I prefer the look of the twin carbs over a weber,

OK, I reckon I know the problem. When I did the cut-the-shaft-in-half trick from Visard's book and put counter-sunk screws into the butterfly, it pushed the butterfly off centre a bit. The holes in the butterfly are slightly oversized. One of them in an HIF6 is oval. This allows the disc to centralise in the carb bore when it is loose in the slot in the shaft. Without shaft mods, you wind off the idle screw totally, let the throttle fully closed and then do up the shaft screws. This centralises the disc.

BUT, once you've counter-sunk the disc, all adjustment is now gone and the disk may bind up on the bore before it is totally closed. This happened to mine. It lets air past even when the idle crew is not engaged.

To fix the problem I replaced the usual split-ended countersunk brass screws with stainless button head screws and flat washers. I just loctited the buggers in. Now it's all good.

Let us know how you get on.

M

Ta cheers,
I to countersunk the butterflys and when fitting the screws ensured that they were in the closed position. The holes were fairly large so i would have expected it to cenralise?? The throttle shaft moves freely in its operation. I knife edged the butterflys though, i didnt think i got carried away with it, was very sensible in how much was taken off. But ive got this gut feeling that this is where my problem is. Maybe the disc is not seating correctly on the inside of the bore dure to me grinding away metal????

Ive got 2 new butterflys on there way up to me at the momment, so i think ill take the same path as u n just fit some button head screws n loctite em in. Bit of a stuff around but any ways.........

I got 2 new Butterflies from Mini Spares on Fri. Ripped the carbs off again n fitted them. Shoved em back on and YUP problem solved. I obviously got carried away when knive edging the butterflies. This was causing to much air to get by the butterfly and causing the high idle. I didnt countersink the screws this time, i just fitted cup head screws.
