Charcoal canister sat on the bulkhead, between the brake MC and the fusebox.

I reckon you should find out if you can get any help through your local mini club of thu a specialsist as for gear changes being difficult, you get used to it. Its a clubman 1275 with emission controls so without checking numbers i would assume its a rod change (later model gear shift system) I have an earier remote type and let me tell you rod is much smoother than remote. But also check your clutch settings! My dad has a clubby and it got to the point where you couldnt get into first without force and his is 4 synchro box (synchro on all forward gears) and it was still hard. When warm or after driven for a while, see if you can shift into reverse without making any scracthing or grinding noises, if there is gearbox noises when shifting into reverse (parked of course LOL!) then clutch adjustment is necessary by the way this is normal. Check out haynes manual or similair but this done by tightening or loosing a bolt that protrudes for the clutch cover. Its fairly obvious, it touchs the clutch arm! Anyways check all this out and seek some help!

I'm just trying to sort whatever I can so it will pass roadworthy and as soon as its registered it will go straight to a mini specialist.

Mate....there are several Mini repairers, Mini parts places and two Mini Clubs that I know of around Brissy. Make contact with someone knowledgeable on Minis and get a house call if necessary....hell!....even get Mad Matt the Mini Man to mountain bike over to your place  :)

Can I just use a generic oil catch can to attach that hose (fuel tank breather) and a hose from the driver's side engine?
