Your going to be dissapointed. Its a pommie motor with the two little rivet holes and its now had that alloy tag removed and a NSW police number stamped on

You will be able to find an 850 quite easily mind you so many get thrown out. Have you driven an 850?

They require a certain skill of being driven almost at the limit and a good sense self accepting that everyone is going to pass you and you will be a harzard on the road in certain situations because if some dill makes you lose what little revs you have it takes a lot to get them back if at all.

They are still reasonable swift on the flat and in traffic if you keep the revs up and because they are after all a mini and handle very well.

If you haven't driven one and are out on a cruise or in Sydney PM and come over Dorothy the green one is back on full rego.

haha try driving one with stuffed rings and a hole in the bore of no.3 cylinder

Well you wouldn't believe it. It turns out the original engine (8YUH20608) out of my van is still floating around. It seems it was sold along with a heap of parts and a few cars as a package and was then sold on with one of the other cars. I have been contacted by the current owner and double checked the no's. I could hardly contain my excitment when he read out the numbers. I thought at first he had just found an 850 engine but there you go. Amazing.

Go for it Ziff - I have the original 850 engine out of my car and one day I'll get round to rebuilding it just for the heck of it

just saw this thread, theres nothing like the feel of an 850, its pure...
sports said there tough, i have one from a 61, std size bore, mains and big ends, and you can measure the crank wear with a tape measure, but she still runs.
congrads on finding the orriginal, is he willing to sell?

i agree, my sisters 63 850 goes well, you just have to keep your momentum up. steve.e nailed it when he said
"They require a certain skill of being driven almost at the limit and a good sense self accepting that everyone is going to pass you and you will be a harzard on the road in certain situations because if some dill makes you lose what little revs you have it takes a lot to get them back if at all."
it revs along nicely. i'd recomend a little head work and balance and polish everything and you'll enjoy it :)

Make sure you use the 3.7 diff too! they dont go so well on a 3.44  as for on the limit driving, they are only small, and they love to rev....just wear ear protection, especially in a van :P

Vizard talks about opening up the original 850 head to let it breath better. and maybe bigger valves. Says it helps a lot. I'm going to practice on my original 850 head before I rip into the 295 head for the 1100 8)

Terrific Ziff...but if the 850 engine needs doing up....why not install some sensible go faster stuff....have it as standard looking on the outside as you like, but give it a heart of gold :!:  :D

Exactly what I was thinking Mick. I might be able to con Graham into giving me a hand with all of the details if I tempt him with the right amber fluid. :D
