I was thinking that would be the one to get... does it have all the spanners that the mini uses?

Or is this one better?

Toledo are good but the set is pretty small. The second(combination) set is just the usual cheap chinese stuff. Its adequate but 12 units for this price plus postage? you can buy a whole combination A/F and Metric 25pc Chrome Vanadium set from Bunnings Warehouse or SuperCheap or whatever for $25 which would be perfect for you as the ring + open (combination) ones are probably the best option. Or go to Bunnings or its SA equivalent and get all the spanners you need from their $1 per spanner box - they'll be the same qulity as the second set. Just make sure you get the chrome van. ones with the thicker handle not the drop forged ones.

OK, this might sound stoopid, but I have a disposable camera in my own and my wifes car.

Years ago I was in a bingle that was not my fault. If I had a camera to photograph the accident scene, it might have saved me having to pay $1200 and being accused of being in the wrong.

Hmmm..... $15 camera....or.... $1200 and the balme for accident.... :?

Just buy one, shove it under the seat. If the film goes off after a year or two, big whoopie. It's only $15.

"1/4-5/16,
3/8-7/16,
1/2-9/16,
5/8-3/4."

Does this mean that theres only 8 real sizes of bolts/nuts in a mini?
Or :? what are the spanner sizes. I might need to know if I buy them separately as Mike suggests.

Thanks.

99% of nuts on a Mini are 7/16", 1/2", or 9/16".
Rocker cover is 5/8".

So yeah you only need a few, on the road. Leave the 255 piece spanner chest at home, for when you pull the motor out or rip the suspension apart....

Well Ryan I'm glad that there is more other person on this forum who sounds as mechanically minded as me :P

Problem is though that I haven't got an up to date Mobile phone with a camera yet. Sounds like I better move up in time.

Dr Mini's Mini is the Tardis! ie. Dr Mini = Dr Who! hence why he can fit all that stuff in his car!

Yes I too have started to follow in the doc's footsteps... spark plugs, coolant, various tools...

yeah, check bunnings willy. I picked up a 25 piece (?) spanner set for $26..... i DID snap an open ender once, took it back, they swapped it for a new set, no questions asked - i only ever use the rings ends now anyway.... the set comes in the usual black plastic holder. Its sold in a yellow and black box.

well i have plenty of room for the tools but i'm concerned that 50Kg of tools flying at the back of my head in an accident would cause me grief
i was thinking about strapping down one of those galvy toolboxes in the back

question for the doc, doesnt this bugger up your fun if you want to take your car for a little thrash?

Nah, it only weighs a few kilos. I have a plastic crate with the jack & wheelbrace in, and 2 plastic toolboxes- one with tools and the other with `Mini parts'.

I DO take it all out (& the spare) on track days though!
