Thanks Betty, definately won`t have much time for wandering fingers in this thing :-) & yeah, should be fun, maybe could make a 2 seater for those wandering finger times :-)

!970minik... there are soooo many options for this kind of thing & you`re on the right track my friend :-)

Miniless,,,handsom deposit up front & we have a deal :-)

Mr Bob... I have big strong arms & huge balls so i`m not worried (much)

Smokie,,,they say that Insanity is hereditary, you get it from your kids, i don`t have kids tho... & a big strong roll cage will only weigh it down , same with brakes, they only slow you down too.

Richarde,,, There`s allway a small problem of traction (or lack therof) in FWD cars at the start line , but with these things being so lightweight & big motha slicks going onto them, i figure that a gentle roll start followed by progressive mashing of throttle will allow enough grip for most situations, once rolling along i`m figuring they will rocket away happilly.

What`s peoples thoughts of a twin V8 engined version,,, you know---> maybe a turbo charged alloy V8 up front,,, & another turbo Alloy V8 in the back??? 4X4 & over 700hp,,, Yeah???????????????

twin engines might work, although you may have some problems because of power output being different between them. Gear selection could cause issues as well. I know it is possible though, as i have seen photos of a twin engined ute that had 2 completely different engines in it (both V8s :D ) I think it was going through an auto box though and i don't know how they made up for the differences in power between them.

Also, it probably isn't worth having two engines because the power wouldn't be useable. you would be better off just putting in a single turbo V8 and making it 4wd.

Matt, you already knew you were a bit crazy - you didn't need us to tell you that

The weight saving of the R1 setup would be my choice,
with still more power than you could safely use.

Got to Google and look for the GSXR 1100 powered go kart. That thing rocks!

Nothing out of the ordinary to be seen here. Perfectly normal creation, something I would like to knock together one day too.

HOWEVER......

My preference is mid-engine, rear wheel drive. Makes braking a little more stable

With either of these 2 power plants placed in the rear of the chassis driving the rear wheels, would definately be more of a mid-engined layout anyways, definately more traction & yes, well more stability under hard braking

I`d expect quite a fair bit of push/understeer in hard tight cornering under power tho

yin/yang with either design tho i spose hey?

That`s probably where a twin R1 (or maybe suzi 1300 Busa) engined buggy (one front & the other in the rear) would be a far better option all round, both engines with turbos would also fix any lack of torque problems, obviously far better traction than any other design, obviously far better stability in braking, cornering & accelleration situations, & not tooo heavy to need huge brakes & tyres, leaving quite a nice tight "little" lightweight traction master.

Yeah?

Matt,
Speaking of twin engined thingys, I don't see that black Qld Twini Mini entered at Speed on Tweed this year. Is it busted or no longer being used in anger??

if you are going to do khanas seriously, go the V8 - it has a reverse gear

otherwise go the R1 - and figure out how to have 6 reverse gears

and finish it

Doc, Billy Westerman (the black twinni minis owner) was over here last nite, (we`re pretty good mates) & he`s built up a moke for circuit track days, he`s also re-building his old group N car for tarmac rallys & is also trying to sort a new race track up here , as well as fixin teeth & lecturing at the Uni about all things teeth related, he`s a busy busy boy & will definately get back into "Nuts" (twinni mini) soon

Sonsta, that`s what i`m doin for now & will make a decision after as to where to go from there.

Mick,,,they both have a reverse gear, the R1 has another starter motor mounted with a sproket into the drive chain set up for reverse... easy-peasy, but i might add another battery for it to run 24volts to get some decent backwards speed,& yeah it will obviously/maybe burn out, but who cares, it will take some time for that to happen anyways & i`ll just take a spare starter with me & swap it over if/when it starts to smoke up :-) I ran an old 6volt Vee-dub starter with 12volts thru it on my old splitty V8 Kombi ute for years & years, even kept a spare one in the ute , ready to swap over , but never ended up needing the dam thing :-)

& yeah, don`t worry, it`ll be finished that`s for sure, my bimmer twin-cam is running now, the alloy V8 speedway mini is nearly a runner now , so it`s this thing`s turn to happen :-) One day i said i`d buy a house,,, so i did,,,another time i said i`d do targa tasmania Rally,,,so i did,,, Then i figured i`d get a BMW twin cam Motorbike cyl head onto a mini motor & make it work,,,so i have,,, about 25+ years ago i said that i`d build an Alloy V8 mini, so i am (still) ,,, NoW!!!! i`m sayng that i`ll have this R! buggy goin, so i am & it will :-)

There`s plenty of "Gunners" out there, & i might well be called one of them,,, but the difference between me & most of the other Gunners, is that i`m also a "Do-er" :-)

Image

My Good old Alloy V8 powered 62 model splitty kombie ute, ahhh, what a dam good car that was :-) not many people believed that i`d build that either :-)

edit due to poor speeiilyng :-)
