I was thinking about it in the night, and maybe there's some method to the previous owners madness. It may have been some kind of home made recipe for stopping rust because there was bugger all rust in the tank. The piece of cardboard beer carton was beautifully preserved unfortunately I couldn't tell what brand of beer though.

just for shits and giggles i check the oil in my dash pot yesterday and it was a bit low, topped it up and the differnce is amazing! Its pulling even harder now, once i get the fuel pump issue sorted ill be laughing. Thanks for the help
