Magnety thing may be worth a try, I think I can see a bit of it, but I am not hopeful.

Anyone in Adelaide got an engine hoist I can borrow? :?

Been there and done that with dropping the drive into the engine.Fortunately I had the engine out at the time and got away with I think only seperating the cluch housing and not the gearbox.
It took a lot of time with a long magnet, some string and a head bolt.
In hindsight it would have been quicker and easier to just seperate the gearbox and engine, gaskets are relatively cheap.

I have done the drop thingy with the dizzy shaft - I am blessed with small hands and I removed the oil from the sump, removed the rad, removed the wheel from the passenger side, removed the speedo cover plate and thrust my hand inside. I figured it would be laying on the synchros somewhere and put my hand right on it.

Then I dropped it behind the layshaft - managed to dig it out but took a whole week-end and lots of swearing...

Be ever soooo careful....

Hi Rob, mmm tempting to try, I have 3 kids with various sizes of small hands.

Might be worth a go.

I presume that in the meantime I can't move it as even with it out of gear the gears will still move and then make a real mess. It is on my drive which is on a slope. I could really do with it being in my shed, but hey, it happens  I think the wine is working.

Cheers

Rick

I find those magnetic things useless. The ones with the litlle grabbers on the end are quite good and have retrived many an object from the bowels of engines. Best of luck

You're right awdmoke, I was warned fair and square.

I don't think the little grabbers or magnety thing will help as the drive is completely out of sight from the hole so I think I may give Rob's idea a try first, if that doesn't work then out she comes.

Trouble is it's my daily driver so the pushbike will be getting a bit of a workout as will I
