Can you buy new pins -

yes karcraft, or any of the mini specialists I'm sure would have them, or take one down to a nut and bolt supplier like Lee Bros in dunlop st parramatta if they are still there; or nepean boltmaster - someone like that.

What type of inner joints do you have , from the rod change box I'll assume they're CV joints similar to the outer ones in design . There are a couple of ways of doing it , have you drained all the oil from the motor ? You can remove the joints intact from the diff outputs by taking the upper ball joint and the tie rod end off the hub (use a ball joint splitter rather than belting with a hammer if you can), this will allow the driveshaft to slide out enough when you release the cv . The cv is held to the output shaft by a spring ring , a bit of springy wire running around a groove on the shaft that fints into a groove inside the cv , all you need to do normally is give the back of the cv (between the cv and the diff housing) a few sharp taps or levers out with a big screw driver or cold chisel .MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CAR SAFELY SUPPORTED FIRST , once the cv has popped off the output shaft , you can push it out of the way enough to lift the motor . Alternatively , after undoing the ball joint etc , you can take the rubber boot off the big side of the cv and pull the inner out of it , much quicker and easier but be careful to catch all the balls that fall out of it . As soon as possible put a plastic bag over the joint with the balls and tape it on so it's ready for whaen you put the motor back in .

If it has rubber uni's or hardy spicer joints , the driveshaft will pull out of the yoke once you have the ball joint and tie rod end removed .

Since your gearbox has roll pins it means it also has pot joints. These are inner CV joints which are a cage with six balls at the inner end of the driveshaft that fit into the grooves in the steel pot joint.

The engine will not come out with the pot joints in position.

You have to jack the car up safely - the undo and drop the ball joint on the top control arm on each side of the mini. By dropping the ball joint I mean you have to take of the top nut holding the ball joint to the control arm and then use a ball joint breaker to make the tapered shaft fall away from the control arm eye.

Then you are able to pull the whole assembly towards you and the drive shaft will pull out of the point joint. As said before, it contains six round balls that will most likely fall out onto the ground. These must be collected and saved for the reassembly.

You must drop the ball joints on both sides to withraw the driveshafts so the engine will come out.

Sorry ian
I guess we both replied at the same time. I wasn't offering advice over yours, just answering the original question

nope, didnt happen, 1 came out, the drivers side just didnt want to pop, had to roll the car into the corner of the carport and jacked the engine onto jack stands,
the beer will be flowing, the steaks will be sizzling, anyone feel like a bbq as long as i can get this engine out and the other in with another exspreinced person or persons, i almost feel like having it towed to the mecha,

Don't tow it if there's only 1 cv stopping you from pulling it out , just take the big end off the cv boot and pull the shaft/cage/balls out of the cv and you're ready to take it out . PM sent as well .

Yes - that is a problem - gettinmg the shafts back it without dropping a ball is really best done with two people - one hold all the balls in place and another to slip the ball joint back together as the pot joint goes together.
