i wouldnt be complaining about that, looks tops for a home job

only thing i would suggest for your engine bay hanra is for the master cylinders and the radiator shroud to be black, then it would look sweet as a nut

that's what I always ask..... it's a hotrodder thing, they reckon it shows up the chrome and stuff in the engine bay, and is harder to mark. My friend just had a '65 mustang convertible bodywork and paint done, spent an utter fortune, but got the engine bay in matt black - they all do it!!

body colour engine bay for me, it just looks right - each to their own tho

Yeah well, thats why i think that the engine should be the same colour as the body.

You probably didnt have the Orange peel until you applied the clear.
Some take a week to cure... depends on temp, etc.

More than likely you had some moisture on, then the clear on top of that... the clear dried quicker on the outside and 'pulled' the colour around causing the orange peel.

You sanded it back? Can you buff the peel out or is it still visible cause of the many coats of clear.

Peter.

oh, one more thing... another cause of orange peel is when you spray too close to the panel.
You want to apply a light dust layer and then a bit more then a wet they say...
How long did it take you from when you picked up the gun to when your final clear was on?

Peter.

Take it from a painter... There is so many reasins this happens.... And sorry to tel you without etch on bare metal before primer you paint will peel eventually. Chances are your air preasure was to low or maybe paint wasnt thinned properly or even too much paint, so many reasons I would really have to see what your doing to tell for sure. Also what sort of paint did you use?? I hope it wasnt a rattle can job, that goes for any step you used..

There is a reason it takes 4 years to do a apprentiship in spray painting.. There is alot to it you know.. Best leave it to the pros me thinks..

Anyone in sydney im only to happy to help...

Mike

no big deal just too much paint. Leave it for as long as you can then get a bucket of water with some soap. Use some 1500 wet and dry followed by 2000 grit sand paper. Should come up sweet.

czerial you shouldnt put 6 coats on then another 6 coats, way too much paint, 3 coats of your colour i reckon is enough to do the whole thing depending on the colour, but for black, 3 at the most.. the only thing your doing by adding more and more paint is killing the flexing agent that is in it which creates cracks and peels very quickly
