Yeah the Japs were good at copying Pommy stuff. But the motors were NOT the same physically.
Another one was Isuzu- the Bellett's motor was a pretty good (but better) copy of a Hillman Minx 1.6L.

A Mini uses the same thermostat as a 350 Chev, but it's not the same engine.. wish it was! :P

I suspect you could be talking about the original `60s Datsun Bluebird motor. I dunno about that one, but it's not the Datto 1200 donk.
