BIG sockets in 3/4 drive are real strong no matter where they are made.
You won't bust em.
Even the Chinese ones...
I have two busted Minimax ¾ drive sockets and a Sidchrome ¾ drive ratchet to prove you wrong!
Mind you I also a 6' of 3" water pipe that slips nicely over the handle of the ratchet.

OK you win. But most Chinese biggies now look pretty good.
I use 6ft of water pipe too, for pinion nut- but NEVER on a ratchet...

Wombat I bought the Kokon brand supposed to be a good brand
33mm or 34mm ones should work as well.

I got a half-inch drive 1 and 5/16" sidcrome socket for $10 from a second hand tool shop near my place, and I think it was new (they sell new tools too) :D

It was Ok, it was a Sidchrome ratchet, they supplied new bits and it is as good as new! I have a Kokon ¾ ratchet for most jobs and the Sidchrome for the big jobs and I also have a Warren & Brown ¾ drive tension wrench for all those things that need to be tensioned to 350lb.ft.

Just to dig this up - which is actually the correct socket for a disk hub nut (metro actually but aren't they the same?) - 1 5/16" or is it 33mm? By my figuring the former is 33.3375mm

Can't get the calipers past the wheel to measure...

I purchased a 3/4 drive 34mm impact socket. (Ebay - US [http://stores.ebay.com.au/1000forless] AU$20 inc. delivery).

Most mini places are only stocking the metric nut version for the disc CVs, as the old 1.5/16's are not being made anymore. Some places may shave it down to fit your old imperial socket, but I suggest buying the metric socket for future-proofing. The 34mm socket will fit both the older 1.5/16 nuts and the newer 34mm nuts. I have been informed the nut is technically a whitworth... but i'm too young for that to mean anything!!!

I guess I'll find out which nuts I have tonight! If I keep it clean they'll swap it I suppose.

I'm a thread hound (tragic, I know...)
It's not a Whitworth thread, it's UNF, but they use 34mm hex bar to make it from because they are made in EU now, not good old GB.

For the people in Adelaide, go to "Hong Kong Tools" in Paddy's Markets, Pooraka. Yes, they are as dodgey as they sound.... but they have containers full of these impact sockets in 3/4" drive.... bought mine from there and they worked perfectly.

Alternatiely, you could buy this .......

Yes, I bought this kit too 8)

over here you can still get the 1 5/16" nut, allways called "original", if you get one with 34mm its called "nachbau" (not original)
the 34mm is about half the price
