I got another quote today for the brackets - $100

now thats a good price to me!

I also called my engineer and he told me either use the existing mounts or if you drill another hole for the rear it needs at least 3mm thick plate 3600 mm²
He prefers me to choose the existing setup - tilting seat.

but I'm not sure if there's space on mine as I have structural support brackets under and if I drill another hole near the gear stick side, the bolt will foul the welds.

So I'm thinking using the rear brackets from the 1st post as just as support for the seat on the floor and weld another bar like the stock seats which hits the seat stopper bar.

$100 :) Go for it!

I agreed to do a pair for a carton of beer,
but it took us 2 cartons by the time we'd finished

Here's mine, under the Cobra Trophy seat- made from square 25 x 3 RHS and 30x3 RHS.
All nickel bronze welded.
Solid as a rock, fits to Mini front brackets with no rear bolts thru floor.
It still tilts. A bit....

Engineered? Well, no... but it's an old car....
I have no probs getting it through annual rego inspections. :D

No it's not adjustable (apart from the 3 holes in std Mini brackets and the 2 tilt positions) but it fits me fine...

Here are mine... i modified a Recaro seat rail that was originally designed to suit a Mazda Astina.

I cut all the tab and mounting points off with an angle grinder.
For the front:
Bought some steel plate... cut two lengths.
Bent it in my vice at home with my muscles and a hammer.
Marked and drilled holes to suit the standard mounting points.
Got a mate to MIG the brackets to the Recaro rail.

For the back:
I bought some 95mm long lengths of steel angle and two square pieces of 5mm thick steel plate.
Got the same mate to weld them to each other then to the Recaro rails.
Drilled a hole in each and then matching holes in the floor.
4 standard bolts for the front... 2 new bolts for the rear plus some 100mm long plates under the floor (because the floor metal is quite thin).

Forgot to add... the material cost me $24 all up. The rest was my time and my mate's time. If he wasn't my mate i'm sure he'd have done it for $50 or less. He's a mechanic. Just about any mechanic can wield a MIG welder. This isn't exactly a complicated job so it'd be hard for them to MOD EDIT up.

I believe that is actually 25 x 3 SHS and 30 x 3 SHS. ;)

SHS - Square Hollow Section.
RHS - Rectangular Hollow Section. To specify RHS you need a third dimension.

Yay... i helped "drmini in aust" with something! :D

I work in the conveyor industry, we call it ALL RHS to avoid confusion.
If it's rectangular it's then got 2 external dimensions- say 50x25x3 RHS. 8)

Ok, i'm a Structural Draftsman and when i specify tie-beams and columns that are hollow sections i call them up by their profile CHS (circular: diameter x wall thickness) SHS (square: width x wall thickness) and RHS (rectangular: height x width x wall thickness).

The tubes in your brackets appear to be square in section. So that's why i would have called it a SHS. If i called it up as a RHS and only specified the width and wall thickness then i'd get builders ringing up asking what the height dimension should be because they'd assume i forgot to type it in.

Sounds like you know what you're talking about and different industries have different ways of doing things.
