you need two guys
one to move the driveshaft, and one to move the engine around,
do one shaft at a time, i think the long one first.

failing that, you need to undo your front suspension on one side or both sides

i did have a mate... couldnt even get the long side in... or the engine mounts to line up... if i could have gotten the engine mounts to line up i would have taken both sides off and put them in seperatly...

you should be able to get at least one side in

my advice is to take the car off the jacks, and put it on blocks of hardwood or something to bring the car level

if you still cant get the engine mounts to line up

loosen the bracket on the bottom of the engine that secure the engine mounts, remember to tighten back up.

use a screwdriver through the hole in the subframe to make small adjustments

try it from above for the driveshafts, did you remove your bonnet?, once you have one pot joint in, pull the engine towards and into that giving just enough room so then the other guy can fandangles the other driveshaft in

otherwise pop your suspension
get the driveshafts in first, then line up the engine mounts

yeah i removed my bonnet... and i virtually got one in.. buti need a long pole so i can lever the engine i needed bout minimum 2" clearance to fit the other side... only way i could have seen it working is if i could have put them both in at the same time and then lowered the engine and use that force to pop them in.. but then i have trouble keeping the balls in..

get the car level first cos you shouldnt need a pole.

we put the 1132 in the banger just recently, we tried one side and couldnt get enough clearance, tried the other side and just managed it in..

pack your balls with grease

Have you split the top ball joints and the steering tie rod ends so the hubs hang outwards or did you just pull the engine out with the hubs still attached ?

How much grease do you have in the pots? Too much and you can't get the drive shafts in. I found out the hard way  I delegated the greasing part to a friend and my words were put some grease in the pots for me, little did i know that he'd filled them!

Hey

NEVER EVER _ NEVER EVER put a car on bricks, pavers or besser blocks - they will crack under the weight and the car will collapse down.

If your under a mini with an engine in it and it falls down, you will not survive it

A neigbour of mine was killed back in March being under a poorly supported car. The electricity meter reader found him dead fifteen minutes after my neighbours had wife driven off to the local shop to get lunch for them both.

ONLY EVER USE PROPERLY BUILT AND PROPERLY LOCATED JACK STANDS
If you can't then dont do the job !![/b]

not alot of grease actually... one sides nice.. (the side i could even get close to getting in..) and the side i was trying to get in wasnt all that greasy... i was concerned there wasnt enough... but i just wanted to get the car together at that stage...

I will make an apology as well.

Having seen a number of my aquaitnances die over my 59 years, I regard any loss of life not due to natural causes as a waste.

I have had three people, with who I knew, die under a fallen car.

I never meant to imply that anyone was doing unsafe practices and it=f that was felt than I am sorry but I am not about promoting safe working habits. Its a very short life and a loooooong time dead.
