We glossed over some bits in the explanation. For a 12G295 to work properly on a stock motor is needs to have its compression raised (sporty types used different higher compression pistons) by skimming off the head but provided the head is in good shape all over its will give the increases as previously described.
To work a 12G202 from scratch - its going to cost more money than the $400 figure that is being tossed around. But you have the opportunity to have the 202 modified to suit the motor you have or want to have. From mild to wild - so to speak.
You wouldn't normally modify a 295 as they have an increasing heritage value and are not as good a head to do all out modifications [/quote]
