While we are on the subject of insurance. Does anyone know of any company that will insure a mine with an unde 20 P plate driver. Shannons have a plicy of no one under 20. I saw an advert in the trading post for another company, rang them and they do not insure anyone under 25.

Just makes you wonder (insurance etc) about who insures those pricks in their WRX/EVOs etc. An Evo was stolen in Wellington recently, whereby they reversed two other cars out of the driveway to get it, while the owners slept inside...

I think Shannons wil ensure under 20s if you are a car club member. Not 100% sure tho.

Most of the WRX/EVO cars in Oz are driven by 40+ yr olds on leases (less risk) or bought by rich mum/dad for spoilt son/daughter and insured in aforementioned mum/dads name.

Subaru are curent offering a $2000 insurance rebate to anyone who buys a new WRX... That says a lot, doesn't it!

All insurance companies (ie NRMA) sucks more than a priest in a boy scouts camp

They have now knocked back the mods. I hate them I say. HATE THEM.

NRMA used to be good.

I had an 82 Gemini with a 2lt Jackaroo engine, weber, extrators, mags, spoilers etc and they covered it agreed value $5000 no problems. For a 20 year old living in Wagga Wagga with that car $600 a year was pretty reasonable.

They went all crappy when they combined with RACV. RACV sux!

I looked at NRMA to insure the S `replica', they wanted too much $$$, would only insure it for $5,400 and wanted to limit it to 5000 Ks? a year, on weekends no daily driving...
We just rang Shannons, didn't look back.

BTW, nearly ALL my other insurance is with NRMA, but Mini-Ha-Ha (now with Vigil) will be on Shannons books next year.

NRMA said i wasnt allowed to drive my matic anymore
so i went to shannons, got the matic ensured easy peasy $5000
$400 a year comprehensive, me, 20 yo gets to be the main driver
normal driving

BUT

Steve n Mikey said NRMA Heritage Vehicle Listing (ie. club plates)
is SUPERIOR to Shannons
Shannons offered $6K max for Dorothy wouldnt budge,
NRMA offered $9K
most of their cars have moved to NRMA Club Rego
something along those lines

That's fine, if you have it on club plates, but it's a PITA if you just want to go for a drive. This car was on NRMA Heritage before I bought it (but not club plates) but for what we want, Shannons is better. And, they don't care about mods, as long as legal. 8)

I thought the historic conditional rego on offer by Transport SA was near enough to the same thing.

Refer: http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/registra ... ration.asp

No good to me..
1. I do not intend to keep the car unmodified
2. I am not a member of a historical car club
3. I hate log books

NRMA/RACV would only insure my van for $2,400 on fully comp daily driver. But they would insure for $5,000 on classic policy - weekend use only. I told them to get stuffed! I want to drive my van whenever I want.

I've been with Shannons ever since. $5,000 agreed value fully comp, daily driver.

 I am now insured with Shannons..!! YAY

Spoke to NRMA after that written confirmation hadnt come through. They have now changed their minds. Webber - OK, extractors - OK, sports exhaust - OK... then came the funny bit... Upgrade of drum to disc - NOT OK, upgrade of half back seats to modern seats - NOT OK, upgrade of 40 year old hard steering wheel to modern soft steering wheel - NOT OK, upgrade of steel 10" wheels to alloy 12" wheels - NOT OK

In other words, anything that was related to making the car louder, faster or more powerful - OK. Anything that would improve the safety - NOT OK.

Its a f'king weird world out there.

Mind you the Shannons policy was $317.14 and the REFUND less cancellation fee from NRMA was $365.31 so I am like $50 up. Thats two tanks of fuel..!!!
