Toe out on the rear of a Mini is not bad as long as you know it is there

True enough, but I could probably count on one hand the number of people on Ausmini qualified to recognise that

Quite easy: drive down freeway, swerve slightly left and right. If toe out in the rear, the car will feel like it's about to let the rear go everytime you swerve. Hard to explain but you'll know it's there cause you'll be pooing your pants if you don't realise it's there. The back end basically oversteers the front end, like a feeling that you are fishtailing everytime you turn at speed

I tried that, feels like you've hit a patch of oil or road sweep...

Revive of thread.......

1/16" to out.... What is the distance between the measurements??

Is it taken off the rim??(10" apart?) or off the tyre?? (more like 16")

I am after a measurement so I can work out the angle between the wheels when adjusted to 1/16" toe.....

thanks

Minimad

PM send but here it is anyway.
From my BMC factory workshop manual (red cover) 1964-65-
"With car unladen, tyres at recommended pressure and steering in straight ahead position, each wheel should make an angle of 7° 30' with the longitudinal axis of the car.
When this angle is correct, TOE-OUT will be 1/16" (1.59mm).
Measurement must be taken on a 14-1/2" (368.3mm) diameter on the sidewall of the tyre, at a distance of 9.4" (239mm) above the road surface."

Bear in mind this was in 1964 or so, suspension was dry, tyres were crossply not radial, and ride heights were greater than anybody would use now.

I set mine about 1.5mm at the treads (10" wheels), and adjust it if I get uneven wear across the tyre.

<edit> typo, I had toe-IN not toe-OUT.

Thanks again Drmini

I do tend to get uneven wear across the tyres...but I think this may come from just flogging it around the track more than an off toe setting

These measurements are exactly what I am looking for.
