Under "Coachwork" it says body must not be modified to accept wider wheels. If they are 6 inch wide the body has to be modified at the front of the front wheel arch to clear the tyre, thats all, minor detail.

A group of us went thru all this here in SA about 12 months ago. It all fell apart after months of "what if's" with various rules, and finding somebody who would act as a "mechanical police officer"

It was concluded that: if somebody was visibly faster than the others, the car would get pulled apart to check for legal and illegal parts.... but no specialist had the time to do this, or wanted to do this for free.

And in the original SA series, there WAS a guy who had a very fast 998.... and a lot of money invested. It ruined the fun of the series for everybody else.

As for wheels and body cutting - we said "no cutting and thats that. If your sixes dont fit, they are not allowed." Its cheaper and fairer if everybody went out there on either the good old contessa rims or stockies with the same tires regardless.

In the end I decided that it would be easier to build a car how I wanted it and just take it out on practice days or open days and just have fun without fighting for the corners.

Unfortunately, there will always be somebody who tries to cheat the system. Its sad, but true.

OK, I see.
Mate, I dont know, I dont think that will change but will put it up there.

What we need is numbers... there are quite a few definate but need to find out more.

You are really reading them arent you ;)
Yes, we changed to allow 1100 cranks... I didnt update the section for 998 + 060... but I will.

All in all, yes, 1100s are allowed. 2 groups basically.

it would be nice if all the cars and engines were built before hand, and therefore entrants just pay the cost of the car and the yearly fee like the john coopa challenge :)

OK LISTEN UP, forget the rules for a minute.
The whole point of this (was and is) to allow people into a race with their mini (yes with some rules and requirements) but NOT something that will cost you too much. There are other classes for that... if you got that much $$ you can go to the other class.
This is about an affordable race for 998/1100's and a whole heap of fun while its going.

If you have a 998 or 1100 and want to race, we want you in. Points or Electric, Flat Top pistons or Dished, 10" radials (no slicks) thats fine, lumpy cam, ported head, no worries!!!!

We want to get this going and will sort out as we go.

By the way we do not hire the whole track ($3600/day) we will share it with the Superminis :) so its MUCH cheaper.

If you are in, PM me.

Cheers,
Peter.

Not trying to be (too) negative, but one of the reasons the original series fell apart was because some were prepared to spend that much $$$ to win a class. The original rules only allowed standard 998 conrods, but development of 998 engines lead to cooper S conrods being allowed, which just added to the price, because what it really meant was that there were some very radical heads, camshafts and rev limits being used by a couple who could afford continual mods and development (or owned their own workshop....), and when they did this, found their standard 998 rods were breaking. There will always be someone who is able to get more cubic $ into the scenario, and it takes away from the spirit. If you are going to maintain the spirit of cheap racing then you have to police the engines to make sure that everyone knows that the cost limits are being enforced (rather than people cheating to win).

my $0.02

cheers
michael

people need to stop calling spending money on mods within the rules cheating....

it's just jealousy...

the fun is in the driving, not the winning....
