there's no reason it wouldnt work on a hillclimb, but it'd be pretty pointless gaf..........they're mostly used by the co-drivers so they can get their notes right and so they know they're not lost between stages etc

They were a distance measuring instrument used pre=electronics. There was a single reading version....tripmaster, and a twin reading version....twinmaster. You need a T piece to go into the speedo cable and then gears to calibrate it. Find a surveyed 5km distance and run up and down changing gears until you get it right. There were gear charts to rough the calibration in but I bet you can't get them any more. Race and Rally in Sydney were the experts. They were not mini specific, being used in every car. There must be hundreds of them laying around in cupboards.
there is a chart on the net i was reading a few days ago, i just searched halda twin master and got the chart,
