... plus a bit of bent flat plate pop-riveted to the lever so it hits the switch and you're away!

... and yes, it's just a courtesy light switch as fitted to a Mini door frame (part number 13H 2018).

I had shell number 15 up in Brisvegas. It was bare after we had stripped it out back in 1993. We sold it roof-less to GC at Sumner Park.
