The Sunshine apparently had a vinyl roof too. Someone told me that when they took theirs off, there was evidence of hail damage to the roof.

the one we had was a hard top. i'd never seen a vinyl toppped mini in my life before i saw the one in the photo.

and yes, it is quite perfect! i took a shot inside the drivers and passenger window, as well as a close up of the paint so i had a digital copy of the colour. his mags and upholstery is even in great condition - bastard!

oh - one more thing. the bonnet clips - standard, or added by someone later?

Ha, the only way I even know the damn thing is an ss is because of the (as far as I can tell genuine) compliance plate. It has been so modded and trashed over the years it is standard in every other way

Any of the older blokes on here, will know that a vinyl roof was always an indicator of possible roof damage, and the vinyl had been placed there to cover it. I've seen quite a few old holdens covered in that way.

Another thing I hated was seeing all the corrosion under it. I'll never touch a car with a vinyl roof. But the SS had a little pop back sunroof, not fully covering the roof, as far as I know.

Hey all, the mini ss, yes 500 made, (as opposed to the 998cc LS
which came on as a regular sold vehicle back in the day as
it was bought in after the success of the ss)

The ss came with blue or brown mettalic paint, colour keyed
vinyl roof (yes it was there due to hail damage) ROH alloy wheels
(the same as the LS in this post- the contessas but skinny ones)
special side stripes with ss on them, centre roof aerial
chrome exhaust extension twin speaker am/fm casette radiomobile
sound system (if you could call it a sound system  ) two driving
lights at the front (yes came standard with the car and they
were s.e.v. Marchal 850 gt driving lights) leather coverd
sports steering wheel (GT Formuling) tinted windows, heated rear
window and two tone cloth/vinyl interior.

you could have bought the car new for $355 extra at a total
of $3895...big money ey...

By the way all of the stuff fitted to the SS you could have optioned
your standard mini clubman up with... gotta love those clubbies

by the way the ss didn't come with a sunroof
(your not thinking of the Sunshine are you??)

And the majority of sunshines did not come with a
vinyl roof, (some very rare ones had a vnyl roof with
sliding vinyl s'roof)

Anyone got a pic of the leather "SS" Steering wheel ?

I'm not sure what my wheel is, but its alloy, leather wrapped and very faintly on the middle spoke, it has "GT Britain"

ideas ?

The sunroof looks like a webasto full length number from the pic. They are an english thing and am pretty sure they were only over there. The only sunroof that came std is that everyone would have seen.

Cheers

Aaron

Errrgghh, AFAIR you could have a webasto in Australia on just about anything when I was a lad.... 8)

BTW there is an "SS" down here that I must take a closer look at sometime...there is not much doing with it.... if anyone is interested..(maybe I can get the fella to think about selling)...

Yep that should be the ss steering wheel, it shopuld have a big lump centre cap in the middle of it with a leyland badge in the middle of the lump. it should have:

formuling
GT
Britan

written on the bottom bit of leather. so sounds like the one you have is an ss steering
wheel to me.
