The eBay one above is the one I have to install. Got it on special somewhere for $8.50 I'll only be using it when parked for a long period and I'm leaving the vehicle out of sight

If you stick an inline fuse holder across the switch it will keep your clock/radio memory. When someone tries to start it while the switch is open the fuse will blow. Also, when you get back to your car and the fuse is blown you know someone has tried to start it. 8)

That's quite smart actually.

I bet not many people would have ever thought about that :P

I suppose even as little as a 5A fuse would do...

Yep, a 5A is about all you need.

Hey guys... just a note of caution (coz I noticed it posted up)...

I'm not sure of the rules and regs in other states... but I was told here in WA a fuel pump cut-out device is illegal. Also if it's found that a fuel pump cut-out device is the cause of an accident (be it by yourself or a thief) you can kiss your insurance goodbye...

While the idea of a fuel cut-out device sounds great, it has the potential to cause a lot of harm and damage. Just imagine someone you know jumps in your car (even as a laugh) and manages to get the car far enough with the fuel in the float bowl to pull out into heavy traffic...

I'm not trying to go on... Just something to think about...

This statement seems odd to me:
Any 2 point plus immobiliser has a fuel pump cutout built in (2 point are starter solenoid and fuel pump, 3 point also adds a coil cutout). Are all of these illegal? What about the GPS tracking immobilisers which cut out all systems on command and are demanded by insurers for the rarest modern supecars? are they illegal?
I'd think that if anything the coil cutout circuit would be the most dangerous as it would cause immediate cutout of engine, whereas a fuel pump cutout would atleast provide some warning (during the initial few seconds of starvation).

I find it hard to believe that if say a thief manages to hot wire a car with an Australian standards approved immobiliser but then it comes to a standstill because of the additional fuel cutout circuit in the immobiliser, anyone could demand termination of insurance (least of all the insurance companies which often demand those devices in the first place).

Plus I cant see how you can cause an at fault accident because of fuel starvation. You will most likely come to a gentle, gradual standstill (unless youre stuck on rail tracks or something). Anyone who crashes at you at that point would be at fault as they werent maintaining distance. Your lights would still operate so that you wont become invisible even at night. So where is the horrible danger?

All 2 point immobiliser systems I've seen interrupt the starter and the ignition... even had a couple of vehicles where the immobiliser has failed and instantly disabled the car...

And I don't know anyone who owns a rare supercar (or any form of supercar) so I couldn't comment on those systems...

Also I'd have to check... but I'm sure Clae installed a whole pile of security gear into a WRX recently and was instructed NOT to hook up the instant immobilising function of the GPS tracking system that was fitted to the vehicle because it would void the insurance if that caused an accident...

Yep, a 5A is about all you need.

You can also use a 5A or 10A circuit breaker, like we have.
No need to carry a fuse then.

re the fuel cutout, the whole idea is, the villains get about 100 yards maybe, car stops so they leg it. At least you will get the car back...
