The stripes you want (which look awesome, I might add) were a period style thing. Like union jack roofs or chequer roofs. Yes some late rovers had stripes and stuff but it was just to look period. Mini's have all ways been a car to modify to how you want it to look and perform. Stripes made the mini look like the race car it truly was (well the Cooper S anyways...)
No they didn't come with stripes, but then again they didn't come with leather reclining seats, superchagers, animal fur roof linings etc. It's all up to you. I personally went for 5 inch wide stripes, on a roundy that works good if you go to the edge of the bonnet. If you come in half and inch from the edge of the bonnet, you go 4 1/2 inchs which is pretty popular too. But the main part is to paint them! Not to use stickers!
