SA historic plates cost a whole lot more. You can pay any amount they choose to charge you. I think they charge higher for plates with numerical patterns.....

As for Transport SA being picky about the people who buy the plates...... how many asian do you see with the plates on their Mercs and Hondas??? Quite a few. I doubt Transport SA really cares about WHO buys the plates, as long as the person has a fat enough wallet.

If you want to have a plate that looks similar, but costs less, get a personalised plate (white writing on dark blue background) and choose a plate that begins with "OOO-...." , then go and get some matching plates made in a colour closer to black....

Here in Qld, it is pretty much the same as for NSW as far as historic plates are concerned, pretty damned expensive but again it depends on what you class as historic plates. If you have a set of old plates, as in mine that are 43 years old, and you find that they are no longer serviceable, they can be replaced but the procedure is that if they are on a registered vehicle, they have to be surrendered ie: cancelled, and then you have to purchase them for an exorbitant fee, the same fee as for any other ancient or personalised plate eg: Hanras DOG 313. They then become your property and can be put on any vehicle or transferred from one to another.
