I have driven around that corner hundreds of times and never crashed. I must have just been lucky.

lol the road goes to the right hand turn and the road goes on a downslope and cause of this an oil sleak spread all over the corner which there for cause me to spin out and hit a 30cm high gutter :( thats why i hate the design lol, and for the record i wasnt driving fast i was actually going slower then 50 cause of the rain and the lady infront of me started to slide aswell so i try to avoid her by turning out of the way and and i ended up hitting the sleak aswell ending me up on the foot path

A similar thing happened to me in my mums car last june, same sorta thing, doing around 45 in a 60 zone as i was coming out of a huge roundabout, hit an oil slick, caused the car to go sideways and i hit a gutter and broke/bent the axle...i got hit with 2000 dollars of excess on my mums insurance and then the boys in blue drove passed and saw my car so they charged me with neglegent driving even tho they didnt even see what happened and i was going under the limit and it was due to no fault of my own... Now im missing 3 points on my licence (im only on my p's so 3 points takes a big chunk) and no one will touch me for insurance for another 5 years especially coz im male and under 25 with a record :(

speed wasnt a factor in this incident, i was going about 45km/h the problem was the car next to me, there was another car involved but the lady driver had caused it herself

she was infront of me in the right lane as we came around the corner i noticed she was begining to slide out towards me so i try to avoid her by moving away as i did this i also hit the oil sleak and causing us into a spin, she was luckily to only clip the gutter but cause i was the closer to the gutter there was no way out except straight into it, there was nothing i can do.

doesnt bother me whether u believe me or not morris 1100

factor is that even when u are driving easy on the road and taking it slow u can still end up in an accident

I have lived in Beverly Hills all my life, that intrsection was 1 minute from my house, i've driven round it in every car i've own included my truck with is usually loaded with 3 tonne on it, in every weather condition too, i've never had a problem there EVER, i've never seen this "oil slick" you mention either.

Doogie

the accident was on the corner of stoney creek rd and king georges rd near the autostyles dealership and i was coming out of stoney creek rd if u have ever travelled around that corner u will see how dangerous it is not only for the wet but in dry weather as well

I smashed head on into a pole 10yrs ago in my Mini. Bent it pretty good, but still drove it home..... Inlet manifolds are fixed to the head pretty tightly....

I'm still trying to work this accident out because I know the road well and the corner near the main intersection there is only a "slight" bend. I'm guessing your tyres aren't in the best condition. 8)

Any pics of the damage? I'm also puzzled at how a gutter hit could damage the inlet manifold.. :?

when i hit the gutter the sump was the first thing, which meant the tbone engine mount broke.. which means the engine droped and cause i have the poppy carby with the float on the bottom it hit the body with such a force its ripped it off from the side of the head, if u liek u can come see it hanra, tiny wont start or idle at all unless i push down on the carby and close the gap on the inlet manifold plus the extracter come off as well ripping the gasket as well..

now do u see what i mean yet?

Wow, big hit.

At least you've walked away from it, and I'm guessing have learned something from the experience. 8)

I've driven around that corner hundreds of times and never had a problem either..so you ran into the big median strip in the middle with all the palm trees?

It was the first big day of rain, so people should realise that the rain is going to hit all the oil and grease that has accumulated from all the cars on the road which hasn't been washed off from the lack of rain. All the roads were very very greasy that day.

45km/h around a corner in those conditions is still fast. Drive to the road conditions, just cause that lady started to slide, doesn't mean that you weren't going too fast. Think about where you locate yourself in relation to other cars as well, they should teach you about road craft when you do your test.

I'm sorry to hear about your mini, but you were the guy behind the wheel at the time, and there is no one else to blame.

Sorry to hear you bingled the Mini Tiny....best thing to do now is carefully check out the front end to make sure you fix everything that may have been damaged.

You learn by your mistakes mate despite what some people are saying here.....everyone loses the front/back at some stage (some even after over 40 years driving ). So just take it a bit easy for a while till you get the feel for what the car does.

^^ I agree.
I've had a number of accidents when i was younger, and they all taught me different things each time. It's a hard way to learn, but as long as you learn it's never a bad thing. If only cars and poles/gutters were harmed then no biggie! Each one there were different environmental/social elements involved but i was still behind the wheel, so have to take some/all responsibility for what happened.

I haven't been involved in a bingle for years now (**knocks wood**) and am glad to have got them out the way early :P The road is a dangerous place no matter what anyone may think!
Look what led to the accident and adjust your driving/attitude to suit...

Good luck with the repairs on tiny.

No, they all got killed by idiots that thought they knew how to drive.

Now is the time to start thinking about a defensive driving course. There are couple of fairly good ones and Ian Luff's course is worth a mention. Peter Finlay used to do a good one too. Others can point you in the direction of other courses BUT now is the time.

Unfortunately our system teaches you to drive around the block, stop and start a few times and memorise some laws and statutes about driving. I doesn't teach you to cope with emergencies or even how to recognise a danger spot.

A defensive driving course will do that. You will do braking exercises, cornering exercises, slide control and a whole lot of tips and techniques that ultimately help you have a sixth sense and eyes in the back of your head if you apply them correctly.

Without me being heavy handed and pious, you have had your scare and although it did some damage there were no injuries. Your no longer immortal but you do need to learn good driving skills. These skills are not going to fall out of the sky. The best way is to be taught them.

Do a defensive driving course.
