Naah the A008's are near new... trust me, it's not the tyres! It was a combination of me being stupid, torque steer and 5000rpm in 2nd

just rememeber to tap the brake when sidways and turn the wheels in the direction the car is sliding and then when you're almost straight again turn the steering back to the striaght [position and take your foot of the accelerator.

*This is what I heard from a friend of friend of a friend of mine, as if i'd know how to keep control of vehicle sidways or know how to get it sideways to begin with*

this reminds me of something i saw the other day

it was dry as a bone at the time, but as i was pulling out onto waterloo corner road, i spotted a patch of water on the opposite side of the road, and sure enough there was a commodore doing a burnout in it.

Do practice this on a flat gravel surface (or grass) with plenty of run off room before you try it on the road. I am not sure that all your friends advice is literally correct. The concept is though

I wouldn't know but my friend was forced to learn quickly when some merging onto the M4 decided to cut into mymates lane sideswipping her and she learn very quickly. IMO she was lucky not to roll considering her speed was 110 when sideswiped. Plus I got the concept from a advanced driving instructor.

I wouldn't try it... I would attempt to do this if I was forced to learn like my friend did. I know its not wise to and against to law to drive in this manor.

The technique for front wheel drive and rear wheel drive is quite different although the concept is the same.

There is nothing wrong with learning how to do it as long as you are not breaking any laws or endangering lives learning it. Ie not on a public road.

Thats where car clubs like the MCC do come into their own because they do run motorkana's, sprints and rallycross type events.

The principle of learning to drive here in Australia is wrong. Here we learn to legally drive around the block and answer a few questions. Usually when damage is done its late at night and, in our case, a dirt road at 100 kmh in a car with four mates. Thats not the time to find out you can't control a skid.

Anyone who learns to fly has to pass progressive skill tests before you can proceed to the next level of flying. Such things as cross wind landings, stalls, dead stick landings and all sort of emergency responses. It should be the same for all drivers. All drivers should know how to handle a car not just how to drive without breaking the law. Incidents happen even at legal speeds.

Emergency braking and skid control are critical driving skills and should be learnt from the start.

End of sermon.

Its about 3 1/2 hours northwest of Sydney. Its early stuff yet but the NSW MCC has been here twice and the social committee are muttering about doing it again. At least to Mudgee (27 km away) and then maybe ??? onto Dubbo Zoo.

Listening Betty and Czerial ???? - Lillee wants to come too.
