The plate is the right one for a 1970 car. You are lucky, they usually corrode right through the prefix numbers. :D

I would guess that your car is either..
A) Mini-Matic.
B) Mini 1100. (poverty model)

What badges does your car have on the boot?

I believe there might have been some 'poverty pack' Mini K's for Commercial use, a bit like the Mini Minors (YG32S3) Could this be one?

Certainly fits time wise (and roundnose), or did the lift up handle Mini K's have YG2S5 ?

Does yours have lift up handle doors?

Maybe not, 70 is too early for lift up handle doors?? :?

Anyone an expert on Mini K history??

I'm not sure what badges. Everythings been taken off the car and body stripped down to bare metal...would have to look throught the boxes of parts to find them.
What noticeable things would a mini matic have?
Would it have a hole in floor pan for gear stick?

A matic will have a hole in the floor just in front of the handbrake.
The poverty pack might have a hole at the front of the floor just behind the dip switch.
A matic will not have a clutch pedal. 8)
A matic will have a long accelerator pedal (about 2'' tall and about ¾" wide)
Normal mini pedal is almost square (about ¾"x1")

No! Don't feel silly. There are a lot of matics with clutch pedals these days. It is quite easy to add a clutch pedal when converting to a manual from an auto. A lot of mechanics didn't know how to fix the auto so quite a few have been converted.

OK.. what are the letters and numbers on top of the radiator shroud.
I still reckon the car is/was a 1970 Minimatic.
Just looked at mine, and the PLATE says YG2S5/, but the BODY says YA2S5/.
When I registered it, they went off the body, ie YA2S5.
I reckon these early compliance plates were stamped wrong, as G in that sequence means 1008-1399cc (quoting from my MOKE parts manual) and all the MiniMatics here were 998cc.
I owned a 1969 MiniMatic as well, they had no compliance plate but the body also was stamped YA2S5/

I've just had a look at the radiator shroud and the only numbers that are on there are 2S5........457.(stamped poorly)

I'm just uploading a pick of the floor of the car. Maybe you can tell me something from that.

Ta.

The prefix letters YA or YG on the rad shroud are often faint, but will be there.

Yeah YA are stamped very faintly.

Here's the floor.

Does it look like it's been converted?

Definitely, looks pretty much like mine does now.
The matic ran the shift cable thru that hole in the front of the toeboard, using a standard 850 magic wand gearshift boot.

it has definately been converted, as the patch at the front of the fire wall is where a magic wand type gearstick would come through, but i remember reading that matics used this same hole to run the cables to the selector.
So this again tells us that it may have been a matic, or a poverty pack.

The hole closer to the seats is not original. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Am I just delusional, or was there not a version of the K built for the PMG (Telecom's precursor)? I have a vague memory that the first 1100 I had ('67, from memory) was an ex-PMG car, but I have no record of its chassis number..
