I would just like to point out that all Australian Minis were in fact Mk1 bodies under the factory designation. There was no distinction between them like the poms did. :wink:

Mini 850 = Mk1
Mini Deluxe = Mk1
Mini Clubman = Mk1
Cooper S Mk2 = Mk1 8)

Did they assemble 850s here :?: CKD kits??

When did full scale production start??? I would have thought they would be full import bodies :?:

The assembly line would have to be changed for the first MK1 Deluxes....quite a few differences.

Mick yes they made 850s here, not CKD- after around 1963-64? most panels were pressed locally.
The Kiwis got the CKD kits from Mother England... :wink:

CKD from 61 and like doc says by around 64 they were pretty much aussie made.

The Minis were built on a side line at Zetland, they were not built in the main shed.

Trim was local, but my 1961 Oz 850 had the Pommy tube frame seats with sliding, not Oz tilting runners.
