Hey guys, Instead of guessing at the fault or asking other poeple who know exactly as much as you do about Auto Electrics why don't you find an Honest Auto Electrician and ask for his openion. Sometimes it is cheaper than guessing what the fault could be. I know there is great distances between these Honest Auto sparkies but "we" do exist. Don't go to a young one they would not have a clue or don't give a Rat's about Minis. If you are in Brisbane give me a call. I am sure I can help. Good luck and when you do find an honest rapirer please let everyone know.
Cheers.

I know that at least 2 people that responded to this post do know a thing or two about automotive electrics, or electronics in general.

Okay - I accept responsibility for some of the things I said. I should not have made comment on the cost of reco'ing an alternator and I should have pointed 1360LS towards qualified and respected tradesmen.

I acted through and wrote through my own eyes where daily the availabilty of the dollar is a struggle.

Sorry leckies. (sincerely)

Yeah why try and fix things yourself when for as little as 100 dollars an hour you can have an autospark replace a 15 dollar set of brushes.

Sheesh.

Well I had a electrically and mechcanically minded person look at this and I know my way around auto electronics. Armed with a trusty multimetre plus solid advice from a mate at one of biggest Aussie battery suppliers, it wasn't hard to realise where the problem was, that being the alternator.

If not I've got a new battery and bosch Alternator

Nothing wrong with having a new power source/charging device for an old car. Makes it that bit more reliable.

sorry to jump in late, i had a sparky do my alternator, it was a standard n14 bosh alternator, when it died, the sparky put it VL commonwhore internals which bumped the output to 90amps. cost, including parts and labour was $110.

Good and bad news ..... altenator fitted I was mistaken its actually 75amp job from minisport so I don't know what actual brand name it is. Bad news is it's still got the altenator light on so off to the auto electric my baby goes. I hope she's not too badly hurt.

I have an N15 pulsar one on my car cost 70 bucks, is rated at 70amp, fitted with some persuasion, and a new pulley made next time I'd get the N14 as it has a V-belt on it already I think.

PS I get no alternator light it doesn't work the same as a mini. BUt I have a voltmetre anyways.
