Coming home yesterday, I saw a big bullfrog in the middle of the road. Its the first I have seen for such a long time. I stopped and caught it and brought it home rather than have some car flatten it. I thought it could live happily in and around one of our dams. Tossed it in the dam and then had to go in after it. The bloody thing had never had enough water to learn to swim.

After some hours coaching, I now have it doing lengths in the bathtub.

Thats awesome Mike! My wife said 'Thats so cute' :D

You need to put a couple of frog floaties on it before you put it back out in the dam... just in case :D or give it a little kickboard to help it along hehe

Good stuff!

Pete.

Mike, We have had a little down here in the last couple of days, our garden tanks are full and the grass is green but the town water supply is still below 15%. Things are better now than any time in the past 4 years. :D

We are not on town water and we spent some time over summer carting house and stock water.

I really think that all Australians should spend some time on gathered water to come to grips with just what a precious resource it is. The only times we have ever really run out of water is when we have had city visitors who "need a shower" after the hot drive here, a shower before bed and then a shower to wake up. We have run out of water at other times but that was because we simply used it up. A different story to squandered. City people wont understand that.

Our regional catchment dam is Windamere - six years into this drought and Windamere is also about 20%. yet we are doing daily releases for the cotton farmers beyond Dubbo. Bloody unbelievable. I have slaughtered sheep because we couldn't feed them or water them. Sigh !!! Have you or any other Australians ever eaten cotton ???

Most water seem to be used to grow cotton and wine grapes. They set up irrigation areas to grow food and we end up with wine and cotton.
At least we will be warm and happy when we starve to death.

A lot of our town water (40% of our daily consumption) is let down the river for environmental flows. It flows right into Sydneys environment. 8)

We are stuck on level 5 and Sydney is doing it tough with gardens and swimming pools. [/rant] 8)

I hope some city people read what we just wrote. The lack of water represents 80% of this country. A mere country 20% of the total population are guardians of just about all of the resources Australia has.

I shudder when I hear that city water restrictions only really apply to the front yard - not also the back yard.

Funny to be talking about it when 20,000 people are flooded out of their homes in the Hunter region but there is bugger all water flowing anywhere else.

We also had five inches of rain and it now guarrantees a productive spring for us but beyond that is not yet even pencilled into the wish tank.

Australia is a bit strange when it come to water. I came from Canada where water is not a probleme at all, you can drink water from everywhere, and we have so much water it's a bit insane. In some dryish summer we go on water restriction that are harder then the stage 4 we are in Geelong under. I dont understand why i cannot water my garden but i can let the tap run for 20 minutes and then water the garden with what they would call "used" water. In Montreal where water is not a issue if we have water restriction you are allowed to use your clothes washing machine only once a week.

Why Australia has got such weak water restriction in a country with so little water is behond belief.

Louis

Geelong has been put on level 4 restriction, which is the toughest we have at the moment. MELBOURNE's water supply is also at its lowest, well below the level at which the govt said they'd bring in stage 4 for melb, and what are they on? Stage 3a. 3-bloody-A. that didnt exist til it looked like they'd have to go to four. Now everybody, count to four with me. 1, 2, 3, 3a, 3b, 3c.....

they're too scared to move to 4.

They should have a national standard for water restrictions.

We stopped using hoses when we went on level 3.
We stopped using buckets and outside taps when we went on level 4. (no outside water at all under level 4)
We had to cut back our total daily use under level 5.
Under our system there is no more levels. We cannot cut back anymore. There is no level 6.

Brisbane is on level 5 and they can water their gardens three times a week.
