I thought about your rusting example in the long grass out the back. Is that a Mk2 (or later mk1 as you are trying to educate us  )?

Also, Mk1 has no flares and a vertical support behind the grill, MK2 has the flares and a diagonal suport behind the grill.

Only the 65- some 66 cars had the vertical support. Then they went diagonal.

Sorry but only the very early Mk1 has the vertical support, they changed in 66.
The Mk1 can also have flares. They were fitted in South Australia (and also they were fitted to Series Production Race cars.)

Sadly I dont have time to re write 4 pages of knowlege, and thats just some of the MK2 |Cooper S's this information is old but accurate, sadly to many know it alls, will shoot it down once i type it out, I got most my records when I joined Mini Car Club back in the late 80's was around then I had a mk 2 and keep adding more to it, to what i have seen so far everything matches up with what records state, looking at it factory documents

Thanks
Monte

Out of interest Monte, what colour interior should a Cadet blue MkII S have had (late 1970)? And what about carpet - did all MkII's have black carpet?

Should have Blue trim Black Carpet for pre 7/11/70

Colour Comb Pre 7/11/70

Cadet Blue / Crystal White (turet) Blue Trim Black Carpet
Cadet Blue / Cadet Blue (turet) Blue Trim Black Carpet

The After 7/11/70

Cadet Blue . Crystal White (turet) Blue Trim Blue Carpet

Seat Belts and Door Straps should also be Blue

Looking at pre 11/70 they all had black carpet then got colours after 11/70
as below:

Blue
Red
Black
Green
Parchment (doeskin)

I even have colours of seat belts and door check straps

I was always under the impression that they were all black, and you could option a different colour. My Camino Gold 7/70 car has (original) black, and I've seen another Camino Gold car a similar age with (original) Parchment (I guess - kinda light beige), and a Camino Gold K with Parchment as well

need to someone from MCCNSW to go to the ex-Leyland employees social club and ask them
