We just want to get her road registered, not in show condition or anything.

She will be a once a week driver.

Better start saving or buying parts one by one.

Aw i dunno.... I plan to have that car showroom. No point having a car "roadworthy" but not restored, defeats the purpose really. I am having enough trouble as it is trying to keep my deluxe up to standards and keeping it on the road. If I don't get the Cooper on the road straight away then I'll have the job done properly.

there you go, now you have a open cheque book resto on your hands. (not a bad thing)
shouldnt be that much mate, looks like most of the car is there, just take everything off it, and get the body work done, clean up other bits and see what you need to buy.

yeah it heavily depends on the condition of the vehicle,
but these are my guesstimates of say a $1000 bomb
best and worst case scenario

paint, $3000-5000+k
and brakes, $500-$2500
and engine, $2500-5000
and gearbox, $1200-1500
interior, $1000-1500
rubbers and seals, $500

i would do a lot of things to bring the price down,
try and get the best car in the first place, look for something like:

no rust or minimal cosmetic rust.
faded paint work, straight panels
half decent working engine, suspension and brakes
some tatty front seats and cards and the back is okay. Carpet needs replacing.
needs wheels.

and try to get stuff second hand, like seats.. you can get engines for far cheaper than rebuild, i was selling a worked 1132cc with rebuilt box for less than half what it would cost to build, some mini shops might have complete units ready to drop also!
brickworx has low km A+ units 1.0 and 1.3 so you could save some money on a costly and time consuming rebuild there. I did one, and i never ever want to do one again :x

wheels are another thing you can find cheap, i sold some widened steelies for $100 and i picked up a set of 12" alloys for $100 also.

i'm planning on doing an 850, heres what i'm planning

no brakes buy good s/h disc brakes
unknown 850cc, needs a few bits and bobs (replace)
no carpet (new carpet at $150 or so)
rear seat needs re-trim (find s/h rear seat)
front seats needs re-foaming and trim (find s/h front seats)
no door cards front or rear (make some up with mdf)
minimal rust, treat it and bitumen it up, should be fine
needs paint bad(no plans yet and this will probably be the biggest cost.)
suspension (replace where needed with s/h stuff)

i will strip a leyland for any parts i need which will save me a bit.
i already have an engine and box for it which is great cos i think its that and the paint/panel which are the worst.

Things I need to locate for the Cooper are new brake and clutch master cylinders, the UV has got to them and the plastic is as brittle as hell. I need a brake caliper for the left disc, I am hoping this won't be a mission.
The interior is intact, but the seats will need recovering and I will do a complete re wire of the car and run a fuse box for each circuit this time rather than the original way.
One thing I will do different to factory is put an Alternator on it. EA Falcon alternators fit on a piece of cake and can throw out 85 amps to cope with higher wattage headlight globes and a stereo.
The most expensive part of this job for me too will be the paint and panel beating.
