Swift kick in the goolies I reckon but I agree with Steve about the Mini shops. You'll always find someone that wasn't completely happy with service at each place but the concern is when there's dodgy stuff going on and there are more complaints than good comments.

agreed, simply being unsatisfied with their work is one thing, but dodgy and illegal stuff, like bidding on own items on ebay is another.

Note: I can't accuse my "mini specialist" of anything illegal. He just can't manage his time, $ or workshop space. I'm sure he has every intention of finishing my car. I might just be retired by then...

I test drove an NA MX-5 yesterday. NICE! Almost as much fun as a mini. It was light, nimble, air conditioned, everything worked and the oil stayed inside the engine!

I got permission from the boss to sell Camilla and the project car bits but keep Mokesta and buy an MX-5.

Very nicely put, I have personal experience with this 'specialist' and will never go near him again, ever, for anything. Others have no issues, so maybe i'm just a fussy bastard?

(Please note that Steve at Brickworx has nothing more to do with this guy than any of his suppliers. Most mini people in the country would purchase from steve at one time or another. Please realise steve is honest, reliable, and of outstanding character, i have dealt with him many times before and will again with utmost confidance!)

this is what i was thinking of suggesting! tis way you still get you keep the car that you are emotinallyb attatched to, as well as scoring a modern cra that, as you said, is tremendous fun. bonus is you will be able to drive the mx-5 a decent distance reliably!

i've heard the rx-8's are big fun too...... i had a look at mazda's aussie website, the prices aren't THAT diferent... of course the rx-8 is slightly dearer

A mate of mine has a Mazda fetish. He's got:

1/ 1982 626 RWD with 13B turbo
2/ 1982 RX-7 with stock 12A
3/ 1996 NA8 MX-5
4/ 2004 RX-8
5/ 2003 323 Astina
6/ 2004 NC MX-5 track car project to be fitted with supercharged Renesis RX-8 motor, cage, seats, RX-8 rear end, Willwood brakes etc. Yummy

The RX-8 is fantastic but not what I'm after. It is big, I like small, it is rotary, I like pistons, it is expensive, I like low cost.

NA series MX-5s are now around $8k to $18 with good examples with plenty of potential around $13k. They wear reasonably priced semi slicks (15s) and the brakes will last many many track days. A track day in one of these is likely to be a $400 event, whereas mates with Skylines and HSVs and EVOs budget on at least $1,000 per track day.

all the more reason to make sure bad stuff never happens.

but i dont think that people wont remember good things.
Word gets around, people refer their mates..
i do think a happy customer will bring more business.

I think it will be terribly demoralising to be thinking you're going around QLD raceway quickly only to be smoked by a 4EFTE powered mini (if any of the ones up here ever run that is).

On another note:

I do not agree that you could potentially be had for defamation. There are four defences to someone trying to take action against you for defamation. Those are:

1. Honest opinion (previously known as fair comment)
2. Justification/Truth
3. Qualified privilege
4. Other defences

I think you will find that

1. The facts upon which your opinion is based are clearly stated.
2. The material published was substantially true
3. The defence of ‘qualified privilege’ applies when you have an interest or a legal, social or moral duty to communicate something to a person and that person has a corresponding interest or duty to receive the information. The link between you and the person you are communicating the material to is crucial to the defence.

I am of the opinion if you don't name this individual you are unfairly painting all 'mini specialists' with the same brush.

never is a very hard thing to achieve - especially when pia are constantly quiping about it in public forums

the customers isnt always right, revenue doesnt equal profit, profit only comes from people prepared to pay the price and value what you do are there to do.

In otherwords tight arse skin flints that always whinge how expensive things are dont keep the doors open, no matter how many times they come back.

Oh and Mokesta - have fun with the MX-5 - but I bet you will miss it breaking down

Is there a third option? Kick the mini specialist in the nuts and go hair dressing?
