Ok. After reading that over a few times i think i get you.

So, basically, the softer compound Blacks will wear faster than the harder compound Greens?

as I said - maybe - but this what I find -

that being said - I brake harder using a harder compound as they dont retard as much until they are warm and so they get used up as quickly as a soft pad

So my experience is 6 of one etc -

Blacks are the softest EBC compound. They will wear down faster, but have the best initial bite from cold. They work best at at a relatively low temperatures, they are excellent for hillclimbs where your brakes have to work well from cold, but they will fade out if used in sprints or fast road work.
Greens are harder, they operate best at a higher brake temperature, they will wear less quickly, but don't have the same bite as blacks when cold. They are an excellent pad for short race/sprint and rally use.
This is what happens when you forget to change from greens to blacks for a hillclimb and hit the brakes hard from cold - the back drums work fine but there's no bite at the front. This doesn't happen with blacks fitted

For real life road conditions, if you have a fairly powerful mini, the greenstuffs once used a bit and warmed up (under 5 minutes on my car) are an incredibly effective pad. I can lock the wheels (if I really slam the pedal) almost immediately from any safe speed (unboosted 7.5in disks).

In the future if i need to replace the discs, is there a vented option for 12'' wheels and is this a good idea?

I'll answer this question!

there are vented options - from factory stuff to after market to modded from other cars. Not really necessary IMHO, and all will set you back from about $500 to $1500

To answer your question, yes, blacks are softer compound than greens!

And yes, they will wear faster than the greens if everything else is equal.

I use the green pads on my LS and found them to be very good, even cold. No booster on the car either.

I had no problems with them when I drove at our hillclimb a while back (of course I wasn't going as fast as Curly :? )...

When I had the Moke, I had the black pads on that and found them to squeal a bit when cold and they left a lot more dust on the wheels than the greens do on the LS.

we put them on when my fiance was driving it which was fine, but it wont stand up to the downhill, or the level of power i have now.

Spaceboy,

Your fiance isn't a toe-dragger is she???

There looks to be a lot of heat gone into that rotor!

no well she doesnt drive it anymore you see..

i reckon this is from the last cruise
we pulled up at the bottom of norton summit road, and
nick had cooked his brakes, there was smoke pouring out etc..
i instantly checked mine and they were ok, no smells or smoke or glowing.
i just suspect blackstuffs are/were a pretty crappy pad.
