It is an imported motor, it has been restamped (badly)
The Cs are 0s. :wink:

12 = 1275.
H = Transverse engine.
?02 = A02, F02 or 902 :? 902 was the 1275LS motor. A02 and F02 are Metro motors.
U = ? Probably pollution gear?
H = High compression
Z = ? There should not be a letter here. :?

Our A+ Moke Motor in Barney is 12H706AAZ so a Z was in use there... maybe.

the numbers are allmost the same.

would striping the motor down and finding out wha crank and rods are in it help find out what type of motor it is

Comparing those two pics (thanks morris1100) it looks like you may have the original stamping, just faint after the block has been decked a little on rebuilding. I'd vote for 1275LS.

Look for the casting number on the back of the block.

Can strip down if you want but internals could be anything. Could be good, or like the last two 1275s i stripped down, could be very very bad.

Unknown motors should really be stripped and checked at a minimum before using in my amatuer opinion.

Cheers

Matt

Yeah, it now appears to be 1275LS, in comparison.

I am a little concerned about the Z, I wonder if Chris Z has any engine numbers with a Z in the 1275LS register? I wonder if the Z is a Moke engine?

The low number 001503 would probably be right for a 1275LS.
