i dont mind the rover mini.
it's everything a morris wishes it could be.
but at the same time, opening that engine bay can make a grown man of 45 fall apart and cry.

alot of people say that when working on a mini u always need to remove the radiator (people that have no clue  )
but i fear owning a rover mini before u do anything u need to remove half the engine :o.

as my next car (not for 2-3 years) im tossing up between a rover mini and... a 300zx. Both have 1 thing in common,
the engines bays are squishy  but then the Zed has 10000000000 things a rover doesnt at the same sale price.
i have to admit fellas im leaning towards the Zed, if i was leaning anymore i'd fall over :P

Well I don't care about all the negative things about a Mini, and that's ANY Mini.

I drive my Mini's because they are fun and I love them. I don't care what other car I can get for the money... if I did I probably wouldn't have so many Minis.

I just can't believe anyone who has driven a Mini and loves them could give them up for any type of other car.

If we all thought about the things that we could have better if we bought and drove another type of car then no one would probably have a Mini. They have their faults, but I wouldn't ever be without one.

I use more petrol in my Mini than I do in my 1.8litre Kia. But who cares.

As far as the Rovers go, if you look back at the prices they have sold for over the years since they were first imported, they have not changed much. They have held their value really well and you could sell one now for much the same price you paid for it about three years ago.

I think that says a lot for the Mini.

I love my Minis regardless.

Guess you could say the Holdens from 48/215 to EJ with the `Grey' motor were Oz Holdens. But the `red' motor used in the EH on was based originally on the US's Chevy II.
The Oz 253 & 308 V8s were home grown.

On early holdens (48-215, FJ....HG) the bodies were designed in the USA. I read in a book somewhere that the HQ 253/308 was the first completely Aussie car - every component designed and built here.

the HQ Holden was a legend car! My grandfather had an HJ ex police car. He got it in '77 and sold it in '98 :D

Early corvettes and hq's share a lot of design and parts,
not 100 percent aussie built

Share as in exactly identical or share as in they can be made to fit?

A mate did corvette RHD conversions for years. He used HQ parts a lot.

The front suspension was GM. It was the same as Chev Camaro/ Pontiac Trans am.
The rear axle was designed in England.
The body was designed in the USA.
The electrics were Bosch or Lucas (German or England) with a bit of AC Delco (USA)

A Morris Major is more Australian than the HQ!

Okay I stand corrected. Maybe it was the LH Torana? Can't find the book.

The Major was a Wolseley 1500/Riley 1.5 with a different grille!! Unlike the major, at least the HQ's body was unique to Oz built car.

Since we are already OT, my mother in law STILL has a HK Kingswood (186 and three on the tree) she bought in the early 70's! She has owned it longer than my wife has been alive! It's still very tidy and original even though it's done something like 300,000 miles. I've got first option on it if she ever sells.

Nah the Rover will never be the new Morris. With some GOOD old things, they can never be replaced. :!:

rovers look complex to work on,but at the end of it,the air con is as easy to remove as a alt.,injection is just alot of wires, and because they is newish, there aint may problems with em...
but nothing will ever come close to replacing the MORRIS 850 :D
