Not sure if it helps but my Oct 1964 Morris 850 van has a cloth covered loom as well.

I must admit Wiring harnesses on Minis always look better and more original if they are the braided sort. But when it comes to doing any repairs to the wiring they are a pain in the back side to get into and they end up TAPED OVER any way. They do Look better for originality. If it is an originally taped Harness it will look original even after it is repaired ! A repaired Braided harness will always look patched up when repaired unless changed again.
